My office chair cylinder gas lift raised too low at maximum. This replacement is perfect fit, and added inches needed for comfortable sitting at my desk. Generic, but good quality, working well so far.

Once you get the old gas cylinder out, using just a hammer and a pipe wrench, installation of the new cylinders is easy-peasy WITHOUT The use of tools. I measured the old cylinder before ordering the new one, and selected the one that matched the dimensions I had, but the new one still extends higher than what the old one did.

Well, it has been a few months and it is still working. Hopefully it will not fail like the last brand I bought after less than a year. NOTE ON INSTALLATION: Besides the fact it takes some strength to get the old out on, You MUST insure that it will not SLIDE up too far into the chair mechanism where the lever controls the height. ALL the office chairs seem to have this problem - it relies on a extremely close tolerance between the cylinder case and the chair holder. If it goes too far, it his the lever mechanism and will not work. AND that is even if your chair has an adjustment for that. Two of my chairs over the years have failed the way - the cylinder either quickly or eventually slides too far and stops work. So you have to figure out a solution to keep that from happening. I normally wrap the cylinder with a very thing layer like paper to keep it from going too far - of course it has to get close to the lever or you can't adjust either. A bit tricky - but due to the inherent design of all these chairs. Most people do not realize this and trash the chairs and get another.

Why did you pick this product vs others?: My old cylinder had the dreaded slowly sinking issue when I sat on it. I would guess it was 10 years old and the cushions were still in great shape. I paid over $400.00 for the chair so I thought I would rebuild it and use it for my workbench in the basement. Ease of assembly: I saw a lot of YouTube videos that showed that it was tough to get the cylinder off the chair bracket. I used a heat gun at 300 degrees and a pipe wrench to loosen the old one, it made it easy. On the chair base there is a c-clip which I removed that held in the old cylinder and I was able to use a mallet to knock out the old housing. Fit: Perfect fit and I am very happy. I also replaced the wheels with single roller wheels which I also got from Amazon - See my other review. The chair is like brand new for under $50.00 I would do this same repair again. Worked great. Used it to replace a lift on a chair I purchased at BJ’s. Replaced the lift in about 5 mins. I thought for sure the original lift would have been stuck like many other people had reported, but it wasn’t and this replacement was a perfect fit.

My not even 3 year old office chair suddenly wouldn't stay up, and that was a problem when it's lowest position made me feel like a kindergartner at the adult's table. I wasn't really wanting to drop another $100+ on a new chair when this one is fine except for the cylinder, so I took a chance and ordered this replacement. I couldn't be happier! It was a serious pain in the you know what to get the old cylinder out, but once I did everything has been perfect. This new cylinder has a higher range of motion, allowing the chair to rise almost as high as a bar stool. That will be great for my sit/stand desk since I spend half my time on my feet or pacing while working on projects. Now I won't have to constantly raise and lower the desk when I need to sit for a while. Highly recommended.

I bought this to use in my new office chair at home. It doubles the weight capacity of the one provided, the only issue I have is it won't let the chair rise or lower. But that's a trade off I'm willing to deal with for added support.

Removing the old cylinder can be a challenge. Installing this new one is a breeze. You just drop it in and put the seat back on. It works well and saved my two chairs from the landfill. I would recommend this product.

Oh wow, what a long cylinder this thing has! I'm six feet tall and about 350 lbs, and this can more than adequately handle my leg length and weight. Effortless to install. Really pleased. I'll be buying another one for my home office chair too.
