I got this need past with the handles so I could move her around in the bed alone... The pad slides very easily over the sheet and it handles are positioned in such a way that I'm able too roll her from side to side and pull her up towards the head of the bed with ease and very little discomfort for my Mother. It is machine washable but I haven't had to wash it yet... It is not waterproof so any liquid spilled on the pad will sleep through... handles are reinforced and strong I pull and yank them several times a day and they are still holding strong. My Mother is 5'7" tall, 9i lbs and the pad reaches from her shoulders to just below the bend of her knees.
