It succeeds through and through with this endeavor. The book is a reference book, textbook, checklist and more all rolled into one. You can read the book any way you’d like and at any skill level. Personally I feel that Email is at the foundation of digital marketing. For those in the know, it’s an interdisciplinary field where the best in tech, design and creativity collide. There’s some great universal ideas you’ll learn in this book that can be applied to advertising, data management and sales in general. Whether you’ve been in the field for a day or ten plus years, I definitely recommend this book for every marketer looking to gain an edge in their understanding.
Review: Should be required reading for anyone in email marketing - Surprisingly, Chad White has found a way to improve upon older editions of his work. In addition to crucial updated content, he has also added various figures that illustrate ideas and will help marketers understand otherwise complex marketing strategies. Email, as a communication tool but especially as a marketing channel, is constantly evolving and reinventing ways to be more valuable for the end-user. Mr. White covers concepts on which I advise my own clients with great clarity and accuracy, like the importance of marketers understanding and anticipating user lifecycle, conceptual best practices, and also includes various tactics and examples to help convey them. Lastly, this work covers the complex world of email deliverability in a way I haven't seen in a mainstream medium before. ISPs like Google and Microsoft only view your content as valuable if their users *show* them they think as much, regardless of how great you think it is. The only way to be successful in email is to be dynamic in your tactics and own deliverability as a sender. This is a fantastic reference book for email marketing novices and experienced marketers alike. Chad outlines 150 best practices as well as checklists that cover everything email marketing related-- from list growth, to copywriting best practices, to subscriber journeys, and more. I consider myself an advanced email marketer, having been in the industry for over six years, but I still keep a copy of this book on my desk. I've used referenced Email Marketing Rules several times when writing internal email communication best practices for my company. But I can also see a small business owner that's new to email marketing and wants a full-circle reference "manual" of sorts on what to do and why. A bonus: Chad's writing style is clear and concise but also interesting and compelling. If you've ever been overwhelmed by the complex and constantly changing world of email marketing, stop wasting time reading this review and buy the book. You'll be happy you did.
