After pricing some kerosene lamps, I decided that was both too messy and expensive for high quality lamps. So I rolled the dice on this. I have been very pleased with it thus far. You can use it as a lantern or a flashlight or both at the same time. The reflector plate helps diffuse the light and makes the lantern function very helpful. As for cranking, it is a breeze to use and charges the battery very quickly. I am going to be ordering more for the rest of the rooms in the house.UPDATE: After a 24 hour power outage, these were great! I have 3 of them and they became the flashlight that I sent with the kids when they had to go to the bathroom. After having them for a couple of years and now battle tested, they are a staple in my power outage emergency kit. It charges really quickly with the crank and the light is pretty bright. I bought this for camping and it works great. Some features that I like...you can choose to only use either the flashlight or lantern, or you can use them both at the same time; also the loop at the top opens and closes with a button so it can easily be hung up in the tent or elsewhere; also mine came with power cord that has a USB on one end and a DC plug on the other that plugs into the flashlight, but I haven't tried using it yet. Additionally, shipping was very fast on this item. Overall I am very satisfied :) ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ What a great product *by A***. on Reviewed in the United States on December 15, 2013* We lose our power almost every time we have a fairly bad storm, so I bought this to use as our light source. It is so well made, easy to use and the best part is that it doesn't take a battery. You can hand crank it to charge it; the crank is really easy to use, but I don't know how long it would take to charge it that way. We try to charge it through the computer if we know bad weather is on the way.
