This mortar and pestle set is a heavy duty, durable product that busy cooks or chefs will love. It’s heavy enough to stay in place when using but it can easily be moved or washed. This is a great product & company. The granite is beautiful and the size and shape are perfect for what I was looking for in a mortar and pestle. The price is very reasonable! This mortar is fantastic! My husband wanted something that was larger than the 1 cup one we had and one that was heavier. We got the 4 cup one as he is on a soft food diet. I found this one and decided to try it out, love the color! This thing is heavy and sturdy, comes with a non slip mat and you can grind things quickly and well. He uses it every day and said it was the best birthday gift he has ever gotten. He loved the seasoning you do when you first wash it and then grind garlic into it to season the marble. I highly recommend this one. I will say while sitting in the computer room I heard a loud noise outside, the postal worked just dropped it on the cement porch! I was so afraid it was cracked or broken, but it was perfect!

This is a wonderful product due to its large capacity (4 cups) and substantial weight (both the mortar and the pestle). Crushing, grinding, and pulverizing whatever herbs, spices or vegetables you're working with makes a very material difference from chopping or mincing by hand or in a food processor (all of the juices are retained). I've had a mortar and pestle for years but never used it much because it was of small capacity and rather light weight and didn't really do much other than crush very small quantities of seeds. This one is a whole different experience entirely. I broke it in making a batch of guacamole. The garlic and cilantro simply disappeared into a lovely paste. No need to chop beforehand at all. It didn't do as well with the serrano peppers so I will continue to grate those into the mortar. Finally the avocadoes were not particularly ripe but this device turned them into a lovely smooth texture with ease. I will definitely be using this quite a bit. Again, I didn't realize what I was missing since I didn't have a mortar and pestle of this weight, capacity and quality. I definitely recommend it.

Huge! Works really well for larger volumes. Careful doing the initial preparation of the stone - managed to file down the skin on my finger tips!
