I had one ceiling pendant replaced with two leaving one 8 inch while in the ceiling. I repaired with same size round drywall, patched it with compound and let dry. No need to sand. I then used a large old paint brush, sunk it into the popcorn ceiling repair gunk and dabbed it onto the ceiling until I got the texture I wanted. It will dry white. Mine came out perfect!
