In essence, you need to stop oxygen or water reaching the surface of the metal. So oiling, painting or plating can all do this. . Apply to new galvanising for better adhesion. An acidic solution of a copper salt for the pre-treatment of clean zinc surfaces so as to provide a good key for paints which would otherwise show poor adhesion. Can be applied to weathered galvanising. Metal, which is exposed to the elements, will oxidize and corrode much faster than protected metals.
