I recently picked up the Elan E64 wire-O field surveying notebook for use on my site inspections, and it’s quickly become one of my favorite field companions. Right away I noticed the build quality: the thick cover holds up against drops and rough handling, while the wire-O binding lets the pages lie flat without fighting to keep the book open. Writing in it during hot, windy days hasn’t been a problem. The paper takes pencil and ink cleanly without smudging, and each page feels substantial — you don’t have to worry about bleed-through or tearing easily when flipping back and forth. I’ve used mine to log coordinates, sketches, notes, and measurements across several projects, and it’s shown no signs of falling apart. The page layout is practical. There’s enough room for both textual notes and small sketches or diagrams, which is crucial when you’re working on uneven terrain or in tight spaces. I like being able to reference my sketches right next to the written measurements without using a separate notebook. One small nitpick: the edges of the pages could be a bit smoother (my fingers sometimes catch when flipping quickly). But it’s a minor detail compared to how sturdy and useful the notebook is in real work settings. In one memorable moment, I was crouched beside a retaining wall mapping elevations, with a wind gust threatening to rip my papers away. Exactly what I needed for my surveying class. Works great and is durable.

Bought one of these for my geology field camp and it worked great. Though I did have to buy another a few weeks in because it’s is fairly small. Towards the end of its life the cover wore down and it looked like the front was going to tear off. Erasing was not really possible without smudging either, but I only ever did that once or twice- it’s a field book and it works great for fieldwork

Not enough pages

Needed it for an engineering class over the summer. Bought it because it was cheap and had good reviews. Not disappointed in my purchase. The outer cover is pretty strong and it protected the paper inside from bending.

Great for my field notes

Like the cover is durable for field notes and has graph paper onesies and data entry for the other side. Great deal per note book 50 pages x 48 books, probably will never need another note book for the rest of time and existence
