Review: Easy to Assemble, Really! (I Know, I Bought SIX of Them) - I may have an addiction to these 'desertcart Basics' shelving units, I just bought my 6th one! I started with the butcher's block/microwave cart unit and was thrilled with it. Then I discovered the tall 5-shelf unit and bought one. I liked that so much I bought 2 more of the tall ones. Then I bought this short 3-shelf unit on Prime Day and got so excited about it that I went back and ordered a second before the sale was over. So let's get the assembly "controversy" out of the way. I won't attempt detailed directions here, but I hope you'll trust me when I say these really are incredibly easy to assemble. And they're perfectly stable and sturdy once assembled. Any review that says these are crazy difficult, or "won't stay together" or that they "wobble" etc have all assembled them incorrectly. Please consider that I have bought SIX of these now, I'm a pro. I can assemble these small ones in about 8-10 minutes leisurely, and the tall 5-shelf ones in about 15 minutes each - and that includes time for me to ponder ideal shelf placement! That's at a relaxed pace and there is zero frustration. Now, I will admit that I was initially perplexed on my very first unit for a few minutes as I fumbled around with the black connectors trying to make sense of them. I too thought "this thing is junk" until I realized I was not realizing how they work. Once I understood the simplicity of it, the rest all flew together with ease and are actually fun to assemble. I could quite literally assemble these with my eyes closed at this point. Watch the videos which should help. But generally: the connectors come in 2 halves that fit together around the pole. Be sure to look for the arrow pointing up so you have them upright. Also look INSIDE for the little ridge lines, this is super helpful. Those lines line up with the single lines on the chrome pole. I actually place them just above the chrome pole line and slide them down until I hear/feel them click into place. The two halves fit together but with a slight GAP. Meaning that they do not close together entirely. They stay in place but will look slightly separated - this is normal! Do not try to force them to fit together tightly, they aren't intended to. When you push the shelf (lightly, there's no need to force it) down over the black connectors, it wedges them closed a bit more. This is by design so that the shelves aren't loose and popping up; they stay in place nicely. Also keep in mind that the black coin-like caps in the box are packing scrap and can be tossed out or repurposed but are not parts for the unit. Lastly, the edging on the shelf goes DOWN. They are NOT lips to hold things on the shelf. You might be able to make it work that way, but it's not meant to be that way. Just know that if you're having a hard time with any part of putting these together, you're doing it wrong. I can assure you, I live alone and have no one around to give me a hand, so I would never buy SIX of these units unless they were super easy to assemble, because I am not a very patient person. These are stable, strong, hold a ton of weight and are extremely versatile, which is why I love them so much. They go with just about any decor style. I have two of the tall units as pantry shelving and a third tall unit in my art studio. I came up with a creative way to use these small 3-shelf ones by putting a 6 foot x 18" piece of plywood over two of them (one at each end with a space in the center) which serves as a sideboard/counter and/or deskpace area in my rustic kitchen where I can roll out bread dough or sit down to pull up recipes on my laptop, etc with baking supplies on the shelves underneath. The leveling feet are handy too. My ONLY complaint is that the prices on these fluctuates dramatically, so I tend to wait and snag one when I see them on sale. I'm considering getting one for the bathroom (towels etc) and maybe even one for off-season clothes storage. They look so classy and nice and the storage and organization they offer is fantastic. These units are some of the best things I've ever purchased on desertcart actually.
Review: Extra info on the parts - It feels sturdy and was very easy to assemble, which is all most people will care about. I'm expecting to do a future project adapting parts from kits similar to this for something more complicated than the standard assembly. So I wished they provided more detail on the parts, and I'm providing some of that detail here. This time I needed just one unit and the standard assembly would have been OK, but I built it a bit differently to test my ideas for next time. The four feet are threaded 3/8 inch (standard thread pitch for 3/8 bolts). The bottoms of the four bottom verticals are threaded to receive those. (not knowing that thread size in advance delayed me a day). The assembled height exceeds the advertised 72 inches by the thickness of the feet. The top and bottom verticals are joined with the part that I took out and photographed (came pre-installed in the top verticals). I didn't measured what (slightly less than 1 inch) thread that is. Only one end of each vertical part is threaded for that connector. The top end of the top vertical is just the thin shell, not threaded (comes with a plastic plug installed). The outer diameter of the verticals is 1 inch (like expensive wire shelving and unlike the many cheap versions). To secure to the wall to prevent tipping, I used a different part than was provided. because I wanted it easy to disconnect/reconnect when temporarily moving the shelf unit away. My future uses will require casters. A standard 3/8 threaded caster would work, except that the casters would swing wider than the shelving, which can be a problem in tight spaces. So I cut a bottom shelf from some scrap plywood I had lying around, and attached casters far enough from the edge that they don't swing past the edge. That gives less stability against tipping but is worth that tradeoff for tight spaces. Without casters, you likely want to use the floor as the bottom shelf. With casters, you need a real bottom shelf. For most uses, 5 shelves is then too little to make good use of the height. So the wood shelf provides a necessary extra shelf in addition to a way to mount casters that don't protrude past the edge. The threading is recessed in the bottom poles, so with the added thickness of a wood bottom shelf, the feet aren't long enough to double as bolts, so I had to buy longer bolts. My photos illustrate all the above. (The wall clip, wood shelf and casters shown were not parts included in this kit).

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Sturdy Organization Shelving!

I purchased this shelving unit so I could store dry goods, cooking spices in a closet I’ve converted because our pantry is a paltry undersized closet in the kitchen with little storage space, and I’m a gourmet cook. I have a lot of dry goods in organization containers already so this was the perfect fit. I’m determined to organize this house and this is yet another step in that organization madness! This heavy-duty 4 shelf unit exceeded my expectations! ASSEMBLY 5/5 Easy and straightforward directions. The clips I was worried about but this design makes putting the shelves together such an easy process. I’ve never put one together but I did it in 20 minutes. The hardest part is deciding the widths between shelfs. The wheels went on easily and work as expected. Shelves fit down onto a clip that you determine the height of. Counting the lines where you want the clips to all be at the same height was the hardest part of the assembly. STURDINESS 5/5 I was so happy to see that this is a heavy-duty shelving unit. The materials are good and the construction shows that it will handle the 350 lb. per shelf! Materials seem long-lasting and durable. The first thing that stands out with this shelving unit is its robust build. The heavy-duty construction instills confidence in its ability to handle substantial weight. This shelving unit feels solid, doesn’t wobble. I do think I will get shelf liners so when my organization bins are fully in place, I can feel satisfied they won’t topple over. I plan on storing some kitchen appliances or heavier glass containers on this bottom shelf, it will hold the weight and still roll just fine. I loaded up my dry goods and then wheeled this through two rooms into the closet. I plan on being able to roll this into my kitchen for big cooking events like Thanksgiving or Christmas. ADJUSTABLE 5/5 Shelves easily adjust to which height you want the shelf to sit. This allows you to customize the shelf, for example all heavier/taller items on bottom. Shelves can adjust easily, even if the shelves are loaded. Just empty that one shelf, reposition the clips that hold it in place and evenly and slowly lower the shelf down onto the newly positioned clips. If you let it down hard and fast onto the clips, they will pop off and you have to fix them and count the lines again. The shelves sit solid onto the clips. MULTI-PURPOSE 5/5 I can imagine this shelf can be used at businesses to store items, in the garage to store items like glass jars or cleaning supplies. I would make sure to line the metal shelf grids before you put glass on it so it will sit stable. I bought gray liners that fit absolutely perfect. Everything looks so organized and I’ve utilized the vertical space in my closet, and with the wheels, can move the shelf to the left or right out of the way and still use the closet for other things. The look of the unit is really nice, I bought the black which is a shiny finish. This unit is attractive enough to be in an open room if needed.
