Silverline 244990 Mini Block Plane 72 mm

A great little plane that can be made to work - not a serious workshop tool but that is pointed out in the description. The blade is narrow and difficult to set, this is common on cheap block planes so I was expecting a fiddly job and got one. The blade was not very sharp but this will soon be rectified, I must say that the wood that I tried it on was a Mallee Burl and very hard with a twisting grain so a tough task, it did quite well but as I said the blade wasn't very sharp. It is a remarkably well made for the money and the materials used are top quality. I'm considering buying the rest of the set and the mini workshop just to have them on display, they would shine up nicely and still be able to do small jobs. Overall I'm happy with the quality and usefulness for the money paid, I would buy again.

Solidly built and works perfectly planing down the wooden hulls of ship models. Great value.

The plane is very nice little toy which once set up can make some good shavings and it's very handy if you need a plane in a difficult access part of a project. The plane is very well machined and looks great, I'm giving 4 stars because of the blade it came with, at least this one was really bad sharpened (shaped) the iron wasn't squared at all and it required a lot of honing in order to get it sharp and squared, certainly the could have done that in the factory in first place. But overall is a pretty good tool

First of all it is small. Even in a childs hand it would still be small. Now that's not to say it won't work because it does. You have to sharpen the blade then keep honing it. For small jobs it's ok. My main gripes with it are the blade is made of cheap metal. You go made on a stone or paper and you can soon have a knackered edge. There is a lot of play with the blade in place so trying to get an even edge is more frustrating than it should be. So if you can overcome a soft metal blade that has too play you have yourself a tiny plane that will work. In the end.

I wondered whether this tool would be any use at that price, and was pleasantly surprised. It really is made of brass and rosewood (not too much, being so small). It's nicely put together and works well once you sharpen the blade yourself - not sharp enough as it comes, but a minute on a stone and then strop fixes There's no spare blade provided, but this one should last years of careful sharpening. I used it for levelling inserts in a guitar bridge, a one-off job - it's too small to be used on long stretches.

Looks nice an seems solid but the blade came completely blunt. Spent hours trying to sharpen but does not do the job it’s intended for Will need to get the blade sharpened professionally for it to be any use

I knew this was small, so I bought it to go in my grandsons first tool box. It's perfect. Good for really small projects too. So cute. Really pleased with purchase.

Missed out on the size , it’s a sad toy size

Eher ein fall für die vitrine. Sieht gut aus und ist nicht grösser als ein standartfeueuerzeug. Das man damit arbeiten soll kann ich mir nicht vorstellen. Nachdem ich die klinge erstmal begutachtet hab wanderte sie auch prompt über den schleifstein. Danach zog er um längen besser. Allerdings ist es so klein das es schwer ist ihn länger (10 min) fest in der hand zu halten und damit gründlich zu arbeiten. Ja man kann damit arbeiten aber wunder darf man nicht erwarten. Nachdem ich nun mehrere wochen damit gearbetet hab möchte ich ihn nicht mehr missen. Die klinge ist nun über ne 4000er stein gegangen und ist nahezu perfeckt! Jeder der sich mit dem hobel beschäftigt und ernsthaft ausseinandersetz wird damit zufrieden sein . Mein zweiter eindruck ist : Super werkzeug. Wird nur leider mit stumpfer klinge ausgeliefert. Mittlerweile kann ich sogar lacke hobeln und so halbieren. Ich bin wirklich erstaunt.

Para quienes saben usar un cepillo, la hoja no es mala, el acero se afila bien y mantiene el corte aceptablemente, además se ajusta con facilidad y es realmente útil en sitios reducidos, yo lo utilizo en la construcción de mis guitarras, y por el precio, ni lo penseis. Para los que dicen que no corta, si no saben afilar una hoja ni nunca han usado un cepillo ni saben como manejarlo, les diría que aprendiesen antes de hablar. Este cepillo, como todos, unos más otros menos, los carísimos incluidos, han de afilarse y asentarse antes de trabajar con ellos. Si además está todo en google, buscad cómo afilar y asentar un cepillo de madera y ya está, Depues opinad.

Prettiest fully functional Mini Block Plane I'm already using for building my wood ship models. Upgraded its blade to LeeValleyTools's mini block plane's blade (A2 steel) that has the same with, a bit shorter than the original.

Prodotto ottimo, per modellismo. La lama è da affilare meglio, ma non è un problema.
