They are good quality and stretched out easily. I've attached them to existing drain pipe and they're working very well. I ended up drilling some holes in them to allow water for the various shrubbery that they run through. The word "solid" likely refers to the fact that it does not collapse on itself. It is rigid plastic that holds its shape no matter how long or short you want it. It starts out shorter at around 3 feet long when it arrives in the mail. It is easier to bend around corners than another item I had tried previously. The pipe expands in length to about 8' max which was all I needed. What I did not anticipate initially was that I would need another kind of coupler (with two female ends) to attach a guard to keep vermin out of the pipe as it exited from the ground at the terminal end. I placed a separate order for this:" Flex-Drain 55020 Drain Pipe Coupler Adapter, Female to Female". This was one of the recommended parts that desertcart suggested to be bought together with Flex-Drain 54001. They definitely ARE perforated but I didn’t figure that out until past the warranty. It will let a lot of water out before it gets to where you want it. Waste of money!!! **Q: is this pipe designed to be buried underground?** A: I have buried mine no more than a foot below surface. Works great. **Q: Is this UV rated?** A: Black drain pipe is UV resistant, but not UV proof. This will probably last 3-5 years, if not longer, in full sunlight before it becomes brittle. **Q: How to expand video?** A: I have expanded it only by holding it in my hands and then pulling the compressions apart. For most men it requires what I would judge as 'medium' strength and exertion. It might be difficult for women though.
