Review: Excellent Value - I was sceptical of ordering these as I had bought earphones to replace the standard ones that come with mobile phones etc before and it's never turned out well. In the past I've spent varying amounts up to £50 on earphones all of which, although providing better sound quality than the standard, have promptly fallen apart within a month. I use earphones with my phone, day to day and they are often just stuffed in a pocket or left dangling. The Sennheisers etc I have purchased in the past have all not been up to the task. I think I have found the solution. Firstly the sounds quality of these is really very good. The bass, mids and trebles all seperate nicely and they work well for podcasts, audibooks, classical, pop, dance, rock and metal music. They certainly match the quality of the source digital files and the mobiles playback. Secondly they are extremely well built. The wiring is very robust and finished in a way I have not seen before. The ear phones themselves are cased in metal and seem to be very tough. They taken a few knocks already that would have ruined previous sets, including shutting the main cord in a car door. The nice surprise for me was they come in a really good looking and well made case and with a more than sufficient set of inner ear pieces or varying sizes and shapes. This was unexpected at this price point. All in all unless you want to spend a fortune on a set of earphones you have to worry about all the time when you are out I think these represent a robust and excellently performing solution for less money than seems reasonable. By far the pick of the value market for me in sound quality and reliability.
Review: Excellent little earphones - After my Klipsch S4i headphones snuffed it I was looking for a set of earphones that wouldn't cost the world but would provide a lovely sound. Initially I had passed over these earphones because I hadn't heard much about them. What a mistake that turned out to be. After reading a couple reviews I was impressed by the praise and decided that even if they were half as good as they were supposed to be, for £30 that's no real loss! The first thing I noticed was how well they were packaged. Upon opening them I realised that you are also provided with a little carrying case + a clip to secure them, which is actually a nice touch. You are also provided with an abundance of earphone tips to choose from (I counted 7 pairs in total) So finding a perfect fit is almost certain! The cable, whilst a little skinny, feels like it is wrapped in a tough plastic and is not the soft usual plastic you get on earphones like Apple's. I like it, others might not. The headphones are milled from aluminium and have a nice sturdy weight to them but don't feel unstable in my ears either. But now for the big one - the sound. I am by no means an expert so my judgement is merely what I feel. To me the bass is tight and powerful, but not overwhelming like the JVC Xtremes or Beats. The midrange generally felt quite distinct, although sometimes floundered when the tracks became heavy in both higher and lower frequencies, albeit, I would say that this is potentially due to my DAC which is noted for a less than excellence midrange reproduction. The treble doesn't really sparkle but is crisp and not harsh, which makes listening to the higher frequency a nice experience and not one of flinching. The overall reproduction is actually quite impressive, especially considering the price tag. The soundstage feels vastly wide and not small like some headphones reproduce. That being said, you don't get volume control or buttons on the cord. Personally I never use them so this isn't really a loss to me, but it might be to others so be warned! So overall. The sound produced is actually a pleasure to listen to! The soundstage feels a lot larger than what it is and sound feels very natural. The refined sound and construction really screams that this was cleverly engineered. At £30 this is an absolute steal and easily justifies why this set of earphones has won so many awards. I would recommend without hesitating, even if they were double the price!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How tough are these? I heard something about the glue not being very strong.**
A: I can't speak for other people's ones, but the ones I got are super strong. I've dropped them put and put them through the wash and they still work great!

**Q: Many here suggest Comply. Is it because E10 isn't so good w/out, or is it a general suggestion for all buds? Do I need Comply for E10 to sound great?**
A: Which inserts fit and sound best is a highly personal experience depending a lot on the physical dimensions of your ear. The E10 comes with enough silicone inserts that you should be able to find one that sounds good. The Comply foam inserts may be more comfortable and/or provide more isolation for you. In terms of sound quality you probably will not notice much if any difference IF you were getting a good fit with the stock silicone inserts. The sound quality is all about the fit, regardless of the insert or the material.

**Q: How good is the bass on this?**
A: The bass is pretty good considering the price of the earphones. They don't have spectacular bass but definitely not bad for $42. I always look for earphones with good bass and I am satisfied with these.

**Q: what is the dynamic range of these headphones?**
A: The ear-buds are double flange and you don't hear outside noise. You don't need to to turn up the volume, they allow you to have your own concert in your head. I bought 2 pairs so if something happens to them,I have a back-up set. They are well worth buying.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Mixed feelings - really strange strengths and weaknesses
*by T***N on 9 March 2014*

First, I'm not a big user of earphones, so bear that in mind with my comments. I'm also a very late adopter of mobile technology. I eventually realised that I needed earphones to make better use of my recently acquired smart phone and I've always thought the 'speakers' on my iPad mini were tinny beyond belief. So I searched for recommendations on the web and these earphones were praised everywhere. Some reviews even suggested you'd have to spend 3-figure sums to get better sound. So I took the plunge. APPEARANCE: They do look good. I know that shouldn't be a major factor, but the packaging, presentation and the 'phones themselves all contributed to a value-for-money feeling. Here they're described as 'silver/black', but there's no silver visible anywhere - they're a gray/black combination. Personally I find it attractive. CONTENT: At this price I think I expected to receive a pair of earphones and nothing else. I was surprised, pleasantly so, to see what else was provided. There's a really tidy hard-shell storage case. It's about 2.5" square - jet-black with a bright red zip closure all the way round the middle. Inside, each half-shell has a mesh net pocket extending full-width and about half-way up its open height. Looks well constructed and very useful. In one of the mesh pockets was a small SoundMAGIC spring-clip, presumably for attaching the earphone cable to a collar or other item of clothing. In the other was a plastic bag with the writing "SoundMAGIC Ear hook Comfortable rubber earhooks for cable back to ear" Through the plastic I could see what turned out to be 6 different pairs of rubber tips for the earphones (different sizes and shapes) and what looked like a small pair of bent plastic rods. I assumed they were the 'earhooks'. Surprise! When I emptied the bag, I got rubber tips, but it turned out the earhooks were actually an image printed on the clear plastic bag. Very strange. I still can't explain this. Nevertheless the different sized tips have provided me with a really comfortable fit, and I don't feel like I need any hooks or clips to keep them in place. SOUND: The earphones themselves are surprisingly, to me, very good indeed. Since I got them I have listened to classical and jazz music, solo instruments and large ensembles, and the 'phones are genuinely very pleasing and satisfying. However, the cable is incredibly noisy! I don't know if this is a characteristic of all earphones of this type or only these. When I move around, or even just turn my head, the cable brushing against my clothes or head generates thumps and rumbles that are incredibly distracting. To get some idea of what I'm talking about and see if your own 'phones have the same issue try this test: pinch the cable at any point really tightly with one hand, using your thumb and one or two forefingers; now, using the other hand, flick the cable with your forefinger above where you've pinched it and again below where you've pinched it. I find these two conditions massively different. The 'below' flick causes no problems - all the cable vibrations and noise get trapped and damped out by my pinched thumb and fingers. But the 'above' flick produces a massive thump in my ears as all the cable noise is transmitted straight to me ears. It's as if the cables were acting as a microphone. It may be, but it's not clear, that this is exactly why the spring-clip is provided - to anchor the cable as close to your head as possible. SUMMARY: Build, appearance, extras, basic sound quality, all seem 'good' verging on the 'excellent'. But until I've resolved this cable noise I can't say this will be my preferred method of listening. I'm happy to persevere because the positive impressions of everything else in this purchase make me feel there has to be a way around it.
