Trying to decide between this and the B- Toys one which is slightly cheaper. Any advice would be appreciated

My kids really enjoyed playing with this set, it has so many pieces to use. Obviously haven't bought the other set so I can't comment but I guess it will boil down to how bothered you are about losing/finding the many pieces

How many and what types of battery are required? your narrative says 3aa, then 2 aaa and finally 2 aa. very confusing!

Does the stethoscope work? Ie Can you hear heartbeat through it?

There's a heartbeat sound from the circle part that you put on chest press the button in and it beats.

does the blood pressure cuff inflate?

No the arm band doesn't inflate. But the red needle on the dial goes around.
