If you wanna see some creepy and beautiful japanese ukyo-e woodcut prints and you love ghost stories, this book is for you. The prints come first, they’re on a beautiful paper and the quality is amazing. Next is the story that explains the print. They’re super interesting and a great starting point if you wanna learn about japanese folklore or to get inspired some scary, yet beautiful art. You also get a little info about the authors but it’s very brief. Brilliant for art inspiration. My only draw back is that I expected the most famous japanese demons and monsters to be there, however it’s a collection of the best prints from the occult instead. This is probs my bad tho, misunderstanding the contents. But If you’re looking for the most famous japanese monsters, head to youtube instead. (The book is still super cool tho)

Amazing book, wonderful attention to detail, a real treasure

I'm fascinated by non-western mythology, so this book is very good when it comes to showing and explaining some of the Japanese myths, mainly ghosts, the illustrations are great, classical representations of such creatures and myths, not a long read, but a fascinating one at that.

Fascinating book full of strange and wonderful creatures and beautiful art. Good quality publication full of illustrations you probably wont see anywhere else.

The art is amazing and overall it's a delightful little read with creepy stories. I read it in 20 minutes, so bear this in mind if you plan to purchase.

Lovely book, looks amazing and there’s loads of cool monsters in it.

I didn’t like the dust cover having filthy hand prints all over it that were unable to be brushed off. I didn’t like how my message to the seller was not responded. Disappointing experiences make buying online regretful.

So, everyone can enjoy if you are interested in ukiyo-e. I usually avoid this theme, but I chose this book just because I wanted to read something about ukiyo-e. It turned out that this book was very interesting because of 2 reasons: 1. I could compare different painters' art works with the same topic. 2. I could learn the perception of Japanese people at that time about those topics. All stories are very famous even now. This book covers all famous ukiyo-e painters, so this can be a good guide of ukiyo-e. However, it can be only if you're interested in this theme though.
