dose this work well with alcohol markers?

Not really appropriate for alcohol markers. They will heavily bleed throug.

Is this good for sketching with pencil?

Yes! It works great for dry media - the paper is nice and smooth. It is cream/off-white which some people are not fond of, but it takes pencil sketching beautifully
