If a 4yr old can learn from this book - so can you - it turns the complex subject of foraging into childs play for all ages!
This book believe it or not was for my 4yr old son who has overnight become a keen mycologist! He chose it online because he wanted a book that showed fungi in their natural habitat (rather than just a scientific picture of the various cross sections of a mushroom on a table for example). He is very pleased with the book, which seeing as he can't read much, is testament to the quality of the photos in it. It is a weighty tome so great for reference. He happily looks through the pictures and can use them to identify fungi in their natural habitat outside. We thought from the title it would just show edible mushrooms, but there are poisonous ones in there too. I haven't looked at it in detail myself but I assume it is in order to point out the poisonous ones that look like edible ones. Anyway, the pictures look very clear and authentic, a bit different to other books in the genre. So in short, if a 4yr old can understand about mushrooms from this book and actually name the ones with complex names out in the field - the book definitely makes 'child's play' out of the complicated subject of mushroom foraging. Though I point out, my son only looks at them and we never actually touch or eat any at this point!

Brilliant Book
This book will definitely be going out on the forays, as it beats all my other ones hands down. At over a kilo the rucksack will be the place for it, as it is 500 pages long and packed with info and crystal clear photos. It concerns itself (obviously) mostly with edibles, but also has information on counterparts, lookalikes, and the dangerous ones. I'd say a perfect book for beginners and intermediates. The book successfully identified its first mushroom yesterday with a nice little patch of what I pitched as Larch Bolete, since confirmed by an expert friend. Can't fault it.

Excellent book
This is an excellent book for identifying mushrooms, clear and informative. The only drawback is the size, it is just too big and heavy for field work.

Photographs are excellent, the subjects are presented well
Absolutely first class. This book fills an important void in my many fungi identification guides in that it concentrates on edible fungi. A welcome publication, that is long overdue for foragers. If your interest is only / mainly in the edible species and you wish to avoid the poisonous ones, this is the book for you. Beginners and more experienced alike will benefit from this book.Photographs are excellent, the subjects are presented well, showing important identification features and colours are true to life. A hefty book so not one for carrying around on your field trips, but a book that I will spend many hours studying and just looking at the photographs.
