Gardman76000 Water Retaining Matting, 5 x 5 x 50 cm

I've used this to line some garden trays in my garden, and I have fabric grow bags sitting on top of the mats. These mats effectively catch run-off after I water them, and allow me to skip watering for a few days if I want to take a break from having to water them; you can fill the trays with a few centimetres of water, and the mat will help to prevent the bags sitting in a big puddle (which risks root rot), and help to wick the water up through the bag to the base of the plants.

Good quality matting helped by using the black polythene underneath. I put this in my bath, watered it thoroughly and placed my smaller house plants on it. They were all very healthy looking on return from two weeks away. Very good product.

Bought for going on a 2 week holiday. Worked well absorbing about 6 litres of water in that time and kept all plants in condition both indoors and out. The size (2 x 0.6) was irritating as 0.6 wide is not quite enough for using a kitchen sink and drainer. 1m wide would be better.

Good quality and works well to hold water under seed trays etc.

Firstly, this is not Gardman Capillary matting. It is Grow-It. Secondly, it is not nearly as well made as previous Gardman matting I have used - the layers delaminate very easily compared to my last stuff.I won't be able to comment on the effectiveness until my tomatoes are growing - I am using it as replacement water wicks in the Hozelock Growbag Waterers

Good value matting

Lines a tray on a greenhouse shelf and it will be interesting to see whether in warm weather this is an efficient way to keep plants watered.
