The cables with it seem like good strong quality and the product as a whole just has a nice quality feel to it. I plugged it in, held down the button for a few seconds and then it paired straight up to the iPad without any fuss and in no time at all, I was playing tracks from Spotify through my hi-fi. Within Spotify there is a nice little control where you can shift output between iPad and uPlay which is nice.Sound quality is lovely and it's never dropped connection once, quite an impressive piece of kit really.Little tip, set your device to mute when listening to music, doesn't stop the music but does stop notification messages pinging out through the hi-fi. Certainly reproduces your music to a higher quality than a lot of the cheaper A2DP Bluetooth receivers. I have both types, and have tested some lovely BT Speakers at length. Between the A2DP types and this little Apt-X Puck, there isn't an astounding leap in quality, but certain times you do get a sense that the Apt-X codec is just that bit clearer and cleaner. It depends what you listen to, of course, and how fussy you are.I think this little Puck sounds just great. Really great in fact. And it would be very good value for money, except ... it's a bit unreliable.You can't always connect to it. Despite trying from different devices, and despite testing those same devices connecting to other Bluetooth receivers in other rooms, sometimes it's just not available. You can pair with it, but not actively use it. Has to be switched off and then on again.It also makes a big drama out of connecting and disconnecting, with a needless digital beep to let you know how clever it is, followed by a loud pop from the speakers. I have other receivers that are perfectly happy just to connect with your phone, or whatever, without the big beeping and popping ceremony we see here.I wanted to love this more. It looks lovely, and comes with some beautiful cables. But it's too unreliable. And the popping and the beeping are ... sad to say, a little annoying after a while. Especially if you're steaming from something like Last FM or Spotify and there's a little gap between songs. The Puck seems to feel the need for a little nap and either when it wakes or sleeps ... "pop" goes the speaker. After each song (pop) or before each song (pop), or after a few moments of silence (pop) or when it hasn't been used for a few hours (pop) ... it's kind of (pop) annoying (pop), though not as much as the connecting bleep.Nice try QED. If it wasn't for the pop and the beep and the unreliability, you'd probably be the best.Would be happy to try them again if the update this particular line. ### ⭐⭐ 2.0 out of 5 stars Promises much, but crackly and poor *by J***D on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 December 2012* I really wanted this product to work.I have a top-range Android phone (a Galaxy Nexus); a top-range Android tablet (a Nexus 7); a top-range laptop (a MacBook Air late-2010); and a bottom-range laptop (a thai Benq Joybook) - all of which I use to play music on. Sadly, this product highlights the truth about decent-quality Bluetooth audio streaming: it doesn't work.This product is really well-built; the audio leads it comes with are excellent quality, and the product itself feels premium. It sits on top of the hifi quite happily.The audio quality, too, is excellent. Some people here claim you can hear compression artifacts and other things, but to me, it sounds just fine, and I couldn't hear any degradation.Apart from the crackles and gaps that make this product unusable.Whatever the reason, none of the devices I own are capable of streaming for more than five or ten minutes before they suffer from short gaps and pauses in the audio stream. These gaps last for a fraction of a second, but because they sound as if they're buffering problems, they don't just create irritating gaps in the sound, but also disrupt the rhythm of the music, too.With four different devices, I'd understand if some weren't capable of consistently streaming decent quality audio: but not all of them. It's not just this receiver - a Bluetooth speaker I own also exhibits the same issues, on every device I own. It's not interference either, since this has happened in three separate locations. The only thing it can be is a fundamental issue with the technology.For me, I'll be getting a wired dock for the tablet, and giving up all hope of using Bluetooth in future.
