Good basic uplighter and reading light
Product was well packaged with all parts and tools included (including two spare allen grub screws for uplighter bracket in case originals got lost). Took me about 20 minutes to assemble. Bulbs were pre-installed. Instructions not great, so mostly assembled by intuition. Could have done with three hands at several points during the assembly. As another reviewer has said, the grub screws in the main uplighter supports need care. Ensure the upright rods are fully inserted before tightening or the screws will disappear. The only real worry I had with assembly was that the main uprights were twisted after loose assembly. Easily fixed by gently twisting both uprights together to straighten and then fully tighten unit. Satin chrome finish slightly prone to scratching around the base during assembly so take care when inserting uprights into the satin chrome base cover. On my unit both lamps are dimmable. Main (300W bulb) dimmer buzzes very very slightly (normal for a lot of dimmers in my experience and less noticeable than some other dimmers that I have on main lights in the house). Reading lamp dimmer (40W bulb) does not buzz at all. Both lights seem to work well and, so far, this unit is a really good addition to my home office/study. My only tiny negative observation is that the reading lamp glass is a bit loose and rattles when the lamp is moved (but it does not rattle once positioned and the light is on). I can probably fix that with a screwdriver but have not had time to do so yet. Overall really good value and better than I expected for the money.

Lovely lamp but be careful when choosing the bulbs
The lamp is lovely and now that it's all finished looks gorgeous. It is very bright which I love, you can dim it down to the brightness of your choosing. It took quite a while to install, I left this task with my partner and he was struggling a bit so I cannot say that it was easy. It does not come with bulbs so you have to buy them separately and here comes the annoying bit - we have spent over £30 looking for the right bulbs. We originally purchased Philips Lighting Linear LED bulb R7S 14 W for the top and it was too big (but we managed to install it). The main problem was that it was buzzing all the time which was driving us mad so this bulb will not be suitable. The second bulb for the bottom lamp we bought was Philips LED G9 Capsule Dimmable Light Bulb, 2.3 W (25 W) which works, but you are not able to fully turn it off. It dims but always stays on the lowest setting. Bulbs that go with this lamp are: - Top: Diall Halogen R7s 2250 lumens white warm - Bottom: Philips Energy Saving G9 Halogen 18W 204lm It appears that whilst LED bulbs work in a way, it's a halogen only lamp. Now that it's all sorted we really love this lamp and can recommend it but be aware that finding bulbs might not be as easy as it seems with this one.

Exactly What I Needed
I had a similar lamp for about 5 years or more and used it in my office. When it broke I needed a replacement. I looked on Amazon and found this one. The reviews seemed mostly positive and the price was good. When I went to checkout I also bought bulbs for the lamp. When the lamp arrived, it looked fantastic, even before assembly. The instructions for assembly were useless so I just used common sense and was able to assemble in about 15-20 minutes. After reading, some reviews say that the lamp came with bulbs , others say it did not. Mine did not come with bulbs but I bought them anyway so it did not bother me. With bulbs easily fitted the lamp completely illuminates the room , far brighter than any ceiling light. Great for offices or near a desk. The 'child' light is not as effective but adds additional light and both lights can be used separately or together. For quality of materials, cost, effectiveness and appearance , I would highly recommend this product.

Good product but doesn't last long
I had 2 lamps of this kind. The brightness and the fact that it's dimmable is a plus. Each of these lamps lasted 4 years and then the top lamp stopped working. I have ordered a new one few days ago and it came with the top glass broken. Amazon has agreed to refund the money but the packaging and the item are big and it is difficult to pack it into its box again.

Excellent product very pleased
A really great product. Well made and nice to look at too. From the dimensions given I thought it would be smaller but thankfully it was just the size I wanted. From floor to edge of metal rim at the top it is approx 6' tall. The metal shade is 11" across and the arm with the other light on starts 44" up from the floor, just above the dimmer switches. The light of the arm is around 4" across and is flexible not just from the stem of the lamp but right where the actual arm lamp itself is. It was easy to assemble (and I am rubbish at things like that so that's saying something.) The light can be very bright if you want it, well enough to light a 14' room, but there are two independent dimmer switches on it so you can dim either the large light at the top or the one on the arm, or both to the desired level. I was a bit nervous about buying a light without seeing it on first, but I needn't have worried. I've looked everywhere for something like this and couldn't find it so took the plunge and bought it online and I'm glad I did. If I needed another lamp I would have no hesitation in buying another of these. Hope this helps!

'Child' lamp emits light from both bottom AND top, so shines into eyes of others. Plus APPALLING customer service from Endon
I was really looking forward to receiving my two 'Mother and child' lamps; since I already own two similar lamps (purchased from John Lewis), I thought I knew what to expect and I thought these lamps from Endon sounded perhaps even better than the ones I already owned, since both the mother and the child parts could be dimmed. However, what I received was NOT what I expected. The casing of the child part of the lamp, listed in the product description a the "reading light", is designed so that the child lamp emits light from the top of its casing as well as from the bottom of its casing. In practice this means that if the child lamp is angled to suit someone reading a book, for instance, the light emitting from the top of the child lamp is then shining at a low level into the room and into the eyes of whomever else is sitting in the room at the time. I was not expecting this at all. In fact, I have never seen a "reading light" which simultaneously emits light in two opposing directions. The other mother and child lamps which I already owned, do not do so; the child part of those lamps has a metallic case to the top, meaning that light emits only from the bottom. So I was surprised and disappointed to see that the Endon lights were designed as they were. This is NOT mentioned at all in the product description. Nor is it apparent from the one, small photo on the website. By the way, why is the product description showing photos of another product - a cabinet light - which is nothing to do with the item being sold? If you feel that this issue wouldn't be a problem for you, then you might actually quite like the lamps. For me, it was a 'showstopper' so I arranged to return the lamps and Amazon duly issued me with a returns label. However, I notice that I am expected to pay the cost of the return and I feel that this is unfair since I am only having to return them due to them being not what I expected. If the product description, or even the product photo, had shown that the child lamp emits light from both top and bottom, I would have not chosen to buy them in the first place. So, I hope I can save someone else from having my experience, and I attach a photo of the child lamp. if you don't want a reading lamp which will shine into other people's eyes while you're using it, then don't buy this lamp. I do feel that the vendor (Endon) should have made this clear, or else be prepared to pay for the cost of the return.

Great purchase
I bought this to replace one from a well known chain which cost around £40 just over two years ago. The uplighter didn't come on and at the price there was no point of even thinking of repair. I chose this one because it was the same combination and as we are both readers we don't always need the whole room lit up. The fact that it has dimmer switches on both is great. At the top setting for the uplighter the room is fully bright in all corners and when reading (or sewing) we can both adjust on a wide range for the smaller lamp. It was delivered within two days of ordering. It is well finished, easy to assemble and great value. Would recommend it to other buyers.

Slightly fiddly to assemble, but good lamp.
Once this lamp is up and working it looks really nice. But i have to say i didn't find the assembly as easy as some of the reviewers. The screws that hold the bowl in place are ridiculously small with no heads, so you have to tighten them by hand which i found almost impossible. And on the bottom leg that holds the mains wire the is a black plastic top that prevents it screwing in under the dimmer switch. Just to add to the confusion there's a thick brown plastic sheath covering the mains lead just under the dimmer which SEEMED to be the cause of the leg not fitting properly. It's not. It's the little plastic top on the leg...which does come off. I did exchange some emails about this with the company concerned, and even though i explained the problem very clearly and even sent a picture, i got slightly terse sentences with no punctuation back, like they were sent by a rather monosyllabic 16 year-old. Even when (i thought) any confusion about what bit of plastic to remove had been cleared up (by me sending a picture) all i got was "as before", advice to remove a part which could have ruined the lamp. Now i'll admit, on reflection, once i'd figured out what to do it seemed pretty obvious, as backed up by other reviewers seemingly having no difficulty. But a little bit more concentration on my original email by the sellers and a little bit more effort, let's face it a capital letter and a full stop doesn't take much, and the frustration of a day would have been solved with the first email reply, and me being happy with the sellers' quick and helpful response and probably feeling a little silly that i'd not worked it out straight away. As i say once i got it working it's a nice lamp. So just minus 1 star for tiny screws and slightly uncommunicative back-up service.
