This is a great weigh scale which I used for calibrating Bicycle Spoke Tensiometers! Likes: 1. Very inexpensive. 2. Great reputation. 3. Accurate. 4. Great Capacity for heavy objects. 5. Attachment ring and hooks are robust (heavy gage steel). 6. Very readable display with huge backlit digits. 7. Can be used with rechargeable Eneloop AA batteries. Dislikes: 1. Display digits are very readable unless you try to view them at an oblique angle Spoke Tensiometer Calibration Jig Details (See photos) Most inexpensive spoke tension meters are not calibrated or at least don't have any calibration documentation. This Outmate Digital Crane Scale has the weight capacity and format to measure the tension of a sample bicycle spoke (ie. from 50 to 150 kilograms force or kgf). A simple jig as shown in the attached photos can be used to create the desired tension on a spoke while cross-referencing it's reading to a Spoke Tensiometer coupled to the spoke under tension. The crane scale readings for the tension measurement application provided a great calibration curve and provided very consistent results over several sessions. (See example attached).

Was able to use it for the first time and it performed as advertised. Sturdy and easy to set up, accuracy seems to be good.

I got this to measure my strength for isometric holds for climbing training, having seen fancier tools that cost hundreds. When I got it I realized that I needed a way to retain the maximum weight value so I could record it in my log. I tried to find a manual but couldn't, but I messed around with the Tare key, holding it down to see what it did and saw "H - ON" appear. When that is on, the scale will retain the stable weight - the word "Lock" appears in the upper right of the display when it sets. So it does everything I need! Recommended for climbers or anybody who wants to measure their isometric strength on a budget.

This scale is adequate for my purposes (weighing plastic tubs of hay for horses) but I agree it's almost impossible to read unless you're looking at it close to straight on. The other thing is that while the weight reads out in hundredths of a pound or kilogram, it's not measuring any more precisely than approx a tenth of a pound or kilogram. Ex: If I get a weight of 4.84 lbs, the next higher reading is 4.96. You'll never see anything between 4.84 and 4.96. The next highest after that is 5.08. There's nothing between 4.96 and 5.08. I can easily live with that for what I'm using it for, but the people who say beware of using it for commercial purposes are correct.

We use this in the barn to weigh hay bags. Sturdy, portable, accurate.

Works great to weigh bags of hay for mini horses

This works great for weighing large pieces of meat and/or weighing out large solutions of brine!

The scale is very touchy. It will sometimes reset while trying to weigh or will change from lbs to kg with a slight bump of whatever you are lifting off the hook. Or if you rattle the hook a little it will change from lbs to kg. I ordered this scale because I’m having to weigh out hay in a hay net for 2 of my horses who are recovering from a medical condition. I first hang the hay net, tare it, then fill it to what I think is the desired weight, then weigh the hay bag with the hay in it. Most of the time I have to adjust the amount of hay in the bag and when I take the bag off the hook, that’s when it changes to kg or resets back to zero lbs with the bag still on the hook. Occasionally it works great, but more times than not, I have to reset/tare the scale, change the kg back to lbs, or even have to turn it back on because it will reset itself and then turn off. I would not recommend or buy this product again
