the item showed a spring under the ring but this was not present on the item.

I've had this product for 11 months in my garden. I noticed the net was falling off and thought it might be the wind. Nope. The white string had completely disintegrated and was turning to dust. This product is supposed to be designed to be kept outside but clearly it is not fit for purpose. Stay away.
