Buy Millie Marotta's Animal Kingdom: a colouring book adventure: 1 by Marotta, Millie (ISBN: 8601410641269) from desertcart's Book Store. Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders. Review: Totally engrossing, relieves stress and is great for the results orientated individual - RECOMMENDED - The Animal Kingdom Colouring booked arrived yesterday from desertcart and it did not disappoint. I am new to adult colouring books and thought I would give it a go seeing as I have a stressful job and basically wanted something to take my mind off work, plus also obtain the feeling that I had achieved something worthwhile and this has really hit the nail on the head. The designs are beautiful and intricate and can by no means be rushed. In approximately 4 hours I had only coloured in approximately one fifth of the design but the results were so satisfying, and my picture now is really coming to life. It is a totally engrossing hobby, and even being a smoker - I did not touch a cigarette during the whole time I was occupied with my colouring in, let alone making a tea or coffee. To go with the book, I purchased 72 oil based coloured pencils. These have worked well - but I can now see the real advantages of using fine tipped pens for absolute precision. The quality of the paper is also good and easy to work with. So my verdict - this is a fantastic stress reliever - you seem to enter a new world where you are very focused and peaceful. If you are a results driven individual like myself, seeing the picture emerge in front of your eyes is very satisfying in every sense. Attention to detail is key and if you take your time, the results are crisp and eye catching. Although I need far more practice as I know there are many talented individuals out there, my first attempt has been included in the attached photo. I would have no hesitation in recommending this lovely book which is so reasonably priced and will last a fair time. Review: Delightful Book - Having bought a French publisher's colouring book that was supposedly aimed at adults but was a complete disappointment, I'm relieved to say that this book really lives up to it's reputation. It's simply beautiful and almost too nice to sully with colouring materials. You may find yourself spending a week flicking through it, mesmerised by each lovely page! The animals and plants are stylised without making them childish as they are richly detailed. It strikes the balance just right as some of the touted as intricate colouring books are just a morass of closely spaced black lines rather than genuinely or pleasantly detailed like this book is. The paper is a pale shade of cream, though I've heard that earlier issues had bright white paper. It's still perfectly presentable and doesn't ruin the colours of your pencils and pens in any way. Speaking of colouring materials, make sure you do a swatch test on the plain pages supplied at the back. I tested out what I planned on using, just to see if it would show through as the illustrations are on both sides of the paper. I found that coloured ballpoint pens are fine but my cheapish gel pens tend to show through - not bleeding, but an obvious shadow on the back side. Stabilo 88 and Staedtler Triplus fineliners show through ever so slightly if used in a solid block and you look closely. I think you might be able to have some fun on the jacket with alcohol markers, but I'd personally stick coloured pencils and/or watercolour pencils inside with a pigment fineliner for adding more detail. Don't go mad and wallop a wet brush over a large area or the paper will buckle, but you can get the effect of pens with watercolour pencils and using a barely damp brush on small areas at a time.

Lovely big book for a little price
Well my book has arrived, OMG it is lovely the front cover is gorgeous and the actual paper thickness is really good ( this is the first book of this sort I have bought so know no different). Picture on each side, seems too good colour in lol. I am more than pleased with this, once I get going I shall post a photo. My imagination is going to run riot with this. Only problem is deciding what picture to do first they are all so lovely. Buy this and you won't be disappointed. Part 2 :- OK...... Not only did I order this book but I also ordered Zen Colouring Animals and bought a Zen Colouring magazine, to say I am disappointed in them is an understatement. As I can now compare this book to others,I can write a 'proper' review, the other books I feel the dwgs are big and bold, more child like than adult, though after a quick flick I did find some 'decent' dwgs, similar to Millie's. This book and the dwgs in it are delicate but detailed and are screaming to be coloured in. So my future purchases and there will more, will be Millie Marotta books. I think to keep me interested more I will have two or three books on the go. But personally if you are just doing research to see what to buy, these are the books to go for. If I could give it more stars I would, but I am limited to 5. But *********** here's a few extra :) .

Lovely colouring book, watch the pens you get though
I'm really enjoying this adult colouring book. As a new comer this is the first book I've bought and I really love all of the animals and intricate details. There are a lot of fine details in this book which can make it difficult to stay in the lines but I'm guessing I will get better with more practice. For 3.99 you get a lot for your money as it's a pretty hefty book and there are so many illustrations to keep you busy. I do wish the page quality could be a little thicker because my pens to bleed through. I bought some pens with very good reviews, the Staedtler 1mm fine point felt pens, however they still bleed through. See my pictures attached. This is a little gutting as I do prefer the effect that you get with felt pens however it ruins the back page and therefore I think I will colour most with pencils which still looks nice. I will try to search for some other pens though to see if they have the same issue. It's a great past time, I've spent several hours this weekend colouring and it is relaxing and gives my brain something to focus on. Definitely recommend!
