A: Yes, you must loosen the cap for the air to vent. If you don't it has no where to vent to. Loosen cap 1/2 to full turn. don't over loosen.

**Q: can this be mounted horizontally?**
A: The air vent must be installed vertically.

**Q: Can this be used to purge air from a well water line (cold) after the pump and before it gets to the house?**
A: Yes, but it should be installed at the highest point in the line.

**Q: Does Bignell know water is water hot or cold ?**
A: No it is for steam it only works hot ..used to bleed the line of air so water flows evenly thru line
