As a result, the goose neck and light would not stay in position despite tightening the anchor nut in the base. I ended up drilling a hole through the goose neck base screw and through plastic base, then used a small nail to anchor the two together. Now it stays wherever I aim it, but without this mod, it would have been unuseable when mounted perpendicular.
