The Arduino pins however cannot handle more than 5.5V being applied to them. To resolve this, you can supply 12V and use a voltage divider to lower the voltage going to the Arduino pin to 5V. The only thing you can adjust is the placement of the sensor. **Q: What voltage should the signal wire read if i'm supplying the probe with 12v? I'm currently reading 9.57v when it's not detecting anything.** A: These are normally open so with no metallic object in front of it it's open or no voltage. It's common to read funny voltages on these if connected to a electronic circuit such as a meter without a resistive load. Consider this device as a electronic switch. If your using 12v that's what you should see when it's make an about 0 when open. If your going from the switch leg to a relay the resistance will pull the voltage to zero when the prox switch is not made up. You can also use a resistor to do the same. Hope that answers. **Q: How do you adjust this to lower the range? I have turned the screw on top with no results.** A: Adjustment is for sensitivity - clockwise for less sensitive, counter for more. Operates at 5V but with need to be closer to the surface being sensed ( I would guess 3-4 mm). At 12V sensitivity is much better. Repeatability is good for a device at this price. Does not work at 5v unfortunately, but it does state a minimum of 6v, so I'm ain't going to hold that against it.I Have it set up by wiring it to my 12v power supply, with a diode in reverse on the signal line to stop the 12v signal going to the mainboard when not triggered. This then allows 5v to flow out from the signal pin on the mainboard when the signal rail is shunted to ground when the sensor detects the hotbed. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars industrial quality *by L***S on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 March 2017* This is a very well built proximity sensor.
