Lovely and fragrant
I used to buy Assam tea at an Asian shop, but moved and there is no longer an Asian or Indian market within easy driving distance. I was really missing the good tea, so decided to try this and I'm glad I did. It's fragrant and tastes wonderful, and I will probably continue to use this even if I find a local source for a similar tea. That's how good it is.

Great tasting-Great price
Excellent tasting tea very fresh! Love that it comes in a lined package for freshness. I keep a portion in a glass jar and use daily. What I do not use stores well in it's package in the freezer. This tea brews up well with a mesh defuser, taste id smooth. If I leave the defuser in the hot water for a little longer, the tea brews well in strength and flavor WITHOUT a bitter taste, which I like for an Assam tea!

A fresh and good quality, but rather simple, Assam
I’ve long rotated between a handful of Assams and was keen to try something new. This loose leaf Assam is the first tea I’ve had from 20 Leaves. It’s fresh, good quality tea, but is a simpler Assam than what I expected at this price point. It’s very clear from the dry leaf that the tea is fresh. It appears to be a mix of medium and long leaf with some more broken leaves as well. When brewed the aroma is characterised mostly by an appealing maltiness, along with much fainter fruity notes. Taken straight, the taste is typically Assam, albeit a more simple one than I expected. Malt and molasses with a light touch of fruitiness. The astringency is remarkably low for an Assam, even when brewed strong. I realise many will see that as a positive, but I think an Assam should have some bite and found myself missing it. Despite that the tea is still a strong one. It takes milk well, resulting in a classic malty Assam milk tea. It also does well with both milk and sugar and makes a great breakfast brew. When cold brewed, the tea is actually more fruity and nuanced than when brewed hot. As iced tea, it is outstanding. Overall, this is a nice Assam, but not nice enough for its price point. Maybe this is because it is certified organic, though my experiences with Davidsons tea make me doubt this. Maybe I’m spoiled from regularly buying a tippy Assam, but I thought this tea much less interesting than Ahmad’s Kalami Assam and it’s costs a good 8 dollars more for a pound. Even Ahmad’s Barooti Assam, a broken leaf tea, has more nuance and stronger secondary flavours than this one. The tea it reminded me the most of was Tea India’s CTC Assam. I liked this 20 Leaves Assam better and felt it was more fruity, but not that much more. Plus you get two lbs of the Tea India CTC Assam for a few dollars less than one pound of this. Although the 20 Leaves Assam is a good tea, I expect more from an orthodox, larger leafed Assam.
