Disappointing experience for beginners, especially with programming
I really wanted to like this kit, but it ended up being a frustrating experience for me. While the KEYESTUDIO 4WD Smart Car does physically work (the components power on when connected), the lack of pre-programming and difficulty with getting the software to work made it unusable for me. As someone who is still learning, I was expecting it to be a bit more beginner-friendly. I tried programming it using the Arduino IDE (Uno software), but couldn’t get it to communicate properly. I even attempted to follow online instructions and downloaded additional files, but the process was overly complicated and didn’t work in the end. Now I have a robot that’s just sitting there, unprogrammed and unused — and honestly, I don’t even feel comfortable showing it to others because it doesn’t do anything. ⚠️ Suggestions for Others: This might be a better fit for someone with advanced Arduino or robotics experience. If you're new to coding or Arduino, be prepared for a steep learning curve with little guidance. I wish the kit came with preloaded code or a more intuitive setup guide, especially for beginners. Final thoughts: I love the idea behind this STEM kit, but the execution didn’t meet expectations — at least not for someone without prior coding experience. I hope future versions make setup easier or include better support and documentation.

This was a great product to make and code with my kids. The instructions left a little to be desired though. If you have background knowledge of Arduino, you'll be fine, but you may need to seek support from the community, or ask AI for assistance. Not only were the instructions difficult to decode at times (obviously a poor translation from Chinese), but some of the sample code was just plain wrong as well. Still worth persevering though. Pretty good value for money, and my kids learned a lot. Incidentally, one of the pieces broke (the plastic cover for the LED board). I think there's a design issue here. I had to use some makeshift stand-offs to put some distance between the plastic and the LED board. This would have stopped it breaking in the first place if it was designed with stand-offs. The broken piece was replaced without hassle though. Definitely worth buying.

This is a fantastic kit. Great for learning about Arduino and microcontrollers. There are a lot of tiny screws to fit so you need nimble fingers. The project run from very simple to quite complex BYT the ones that use the infrared sensor do not compile because of incompatibilities with the latest libraries. You have to look for online blogs to understand how to edit the code. I haven't yet solved all of the issues but I'm still hopeful if getting it all working. However, the app is utterly useless and it will not connect to Bluetooth so forget controlling the car with a phone. Pity.

I saw this and thought what a great way to get straight into building a controllable device and then apply my learned Arduino programming to it. This kit is actually really very good. No soldering required as all components and electronic connections connect via screws. There are many parts, components and accessories, more than can be photographed. But what you see in the listing is what you get. The components and parts are all really well made and function as they should allowing you to build a decent robotic car. This is an intricate process and requires a fair degree of nimbleness and dexterity from your fingers. The kit is really very good. I cannot fault it or the build quality. But here's the thing, you need to be able to program it and code it. For this you need the Arduino programming language. This is a long, detailed and complex process, especially if you have no programming experience of any kind. You get a very basic leaflet that shows you where to get on-line support. Scan the QR code to get the basic instruction index (see photo) Here you will find a access to detailed instructions on how to program. I would have liked to see the programming codes and instructions and explanations in a pamphlet form at the very least. All that said, for me, this is a great little project for me that is expanding my knowledge of Arduino and enables me to see the fruits of learnings pretty quickly in a practical way.

KEYETSUDIO 4WD Smart Coding Robot Car Kit for Arduino, Arduino Starter Kit, DIY Electronic Kit for Adult Teen, 15+, Programmable Robotic Project This is a great kit to get you started in the world of remote control robotics. The actual building of the car is simple enough in concept, assuming you carefully follow the instructions, as all the parts and positions they go in are marked out. It is however a fairly time consuming task, albeit a fairly fun one, as there are lots of tiny screws to be used during assembly. This will vary in difficulty depending on your dexterity and your skill in this type of construction. There are plenty of online tutorials to help with the building if you struggle with any sections. As the instructions point out, some electronics knowledge is very helpful with this kit, but for most the fun comes from learning so even if you're not that clued up you'll certainly learn along the way, especially if you Google information on any component you're unfamiliar with. Once constructed this robot car doesn't appeal aesthetically but that isn't the point. It has wires and electronic bits sticking out all over the place but for me that added to the appeal. This isn't a toy remote control car, it's a robotic construction kit to teach and learn from. At it's basic level, this can be a simple remote control car. It comes with a small remote that allows you to operate basic drive functions and as with any remote control car it's fun to play around with. You can also connect via Bluetooth using a phone app and control the car that way too. The meat of this project is learning to code this car to open up the world of robotics. This is done via the Arduino language and I'll be honest I've not even begun to learn and understand this yet. The car has an Arduino compatible motherboard which can be connected to a PC to start projects that allow you to change all manner of functions, from simple LED light sequences to obstacle avoidance routines and so much more. It looks to start out quite simple but can become very complex, so learning will take some time and dedication. There's a very in depth tutorial available by following the link in the advert for this item. So far I've had a lot of fun with this robotic car but I've barely even started to scratch the surface of its full capabilities but I am persisting in getting to understand the coding aspect. So hopefully in the not too distant future I'll have this excellent little robotic car following my commands like a champ! I'm no robotics or engineering expert by any means, in fact I am totally at novice level, especially where any sort of coding is involved. But this is kit is an excellent start on your path to understanding all of this as long as you have the desire to learn and time to commit. Don't think for one minute this will be easy though!
