The Geometry of Hand-Sewing: A Romance in Stitches and Embroidery from Alabama Chanin and The School of Making (Alabama Studio) Review: Excellent book of stitches - While I enjoyed this book of stitches, it wasn’t exactly what I was looking for but I think it is useful! I thought the featured projects were lovely and the book is well organized, easy to read and understand. I will most likely purchase a paper copy to add to my sewing library because there are many stitches that can be useful to add interest to hand sewn garments. I liked the grid approach for even and consistent looking stitches. Great for practicing! I also liked the small samplers of stitches, would make for some interesting throw pillows or other small projects. I would recommend this book if you are looking to make the featured projects or looking for new stitches for embroidery or adding interest to plain hand sewn garments. Review: Great resource - This is a terrific resource, stitches have a written description, a picture indicating the way to complete it, as well as what the front and back look like. There are variations of different stitches, and stitches that are known by different names have them listed. I did not expect the 2 pages stitch card templates at the back. Will definitely be recommending this.

Stunning
Best book on stitching/embroidery I’ve seen in years. Detailed, step-by-step directions and photos. I can’t recommend more for beginners and experienced stitchists alike.

Wow, What a Book!!!!!
Ok, I'm not one to write reviews especially when it comes to books because it's so subjective. However, I have an extensive sewing/embroidery/crafting library. I like to read them from cover to cover when I'm in-between book books. So, I have seen my fair share of totally useless to awsome books. This book has just blown me away. It is one of, if not the best, I have ever seen. It is not only informative but very well layed out and concise. Everything from the basics for a novice to more intricate designs for experts. Stitch diagrams cover left and right handed instructions. What the stitches look like not only on the front of fabric bit the back as well. It has durable soft plastic stitch guides for every stitch. The book itself is a semi hard cover with spiral bound pages. If it's a stitch, it's in this book. A must have if you hand sew and or embroider or are looking to. It is very obvious how much time, expertise, and care that went into this book. More than worth the 25$ it sells for. I just can't say enough about this book. Everything from tools, to finishing projects are covered. Wow! It's just fantastic. Like I said I just can't say enough. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Basics with a twist
This is a lovely compendium of a lot of basic embroidery stitches and their variations presented in a non-traditional manner. The stitches are worked in hand with no hoop, and most of the examples are shown on cotton jersey - t-shirt fabric - although they are equally applicable to any fabric, even the most traditional like linen. The plastic grid sheets are helpful tools for getting a precise, almost even-weave, look on very contemporary and accessible fabric. All of the instructions are pictured working both from the right and from the left, so whether you are right-handed or left-handed, and whichever direction you prefer, you don’t need to interpret or translate the illustrations. The finished stitch photos show both the front and the back of the stitch. And the incidental photos of finished garments (no instructions) are wonderful and full of ideas of new directions to take your work. I’ve been embroidering for a very long time, and have used lots of references, and I consider this a worthwhile addition to my crafting library.

Beautiful inspiration
This is a gorgeous book and great for inspiration. It does have some reference and instructional material but it's mostly a showcase for the beautiful designs of the author's lovely clothing line and studio. It has some useful plastic templates you can use to recreate some of the stitch patterns yourself. Great inspiration and enjoyable to read and beautiful photography. Best for experienced creators and intermediates who want to level up, but probably more aspirational for beginners.
