The NEW Ironwood and Ironwood XL are NOT the same as the 885 575, etc.
Many of the reviews here are NOT for the Ironwood XL. They are for the 885 or 575. These are NOT the same as the NEW Ironwood and Ironwood XL. This is VERY confusing. The Ironwood XL is amazing. My third Traeger grill and by a long margin the best by far. The XL is BIG. Lots of grill space. The controller is very comprehensive and work perfectly with the app. Controlling by WiFi and bluetooth is seamless. Look au a Traeger recipe on the app and push the button to start that recipe on the grill. The only caveat is that you MUST turn the grill on at the grill before controlling with the app so you can't do it from your chair UNTIL you hit the switch on the front of the grill on a cold, asleep grill. Not a problem, but a thing to know. The pellet sensor is amazing accurate and changing out the pellets is as simple as placing a bun, pulling the handle on the Shute, dumping the pellets (which you will need to push the remains out. Think paint stir stick) and refilling the hopper with different pellets. A real game changer over previous models that require a shop vac to empty the hopper. Super smoke mode is excellent, BUT it only works up to 225 degrees. Smoke has not been a problem so far, unlike a lot of the reviews that claim no smoke. I have not found that to be true. With the add on front shelf and pop and lock bin and towel/paper roll holder this is more grill than most will ever need. So far I could not be more pleased. Don't be fooled by the negative reviews. MOST of them are NOT for the NEW Ironwood series. I would buy this grill again, despite the price and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a premium pellet grill.

Incredible Grill and Smoker - You won't regret the size
Considering the investment I would be making in the smoker I wanted (this one) and I thought, "It has to go on sale sometime." Nope. Valentine's Day, Father's Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, nada, no price reduction. Then FINALLY for Black Friday the price went down on both the regular new Ironwood, and the XL version which was only $200 more. I really had angst over which model to get. I opted for the extra $200, and days later a huge, and I mean HUGE box was delivered. The instructions suggested two people to put it together, but, I managed to get this beast together in my living room by myself (prior to the back patio move). I loved how the written instructions stated including downing a six pack as part of the build. This machine was gorgeous. Finally to the outside, connected to our home network, went through the seasoning program (btw, the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth user interfaces on the smoker and the Traeger app are very well done), and wondered what I would cook first. Half a dozen chicken breasts were first, then on to a pork shoulder for pulled port, smoked cream cheese blocks, and it hasn't stopped since. I'm probably still in the honeymoon phase of ownership, but I love this beast. OH, and though there are only two of us, the extra pellets the XL version uses are negligible. I read too many stories of folks buying the smaller version and then regretting that decision, wishing they had gone larger. I beat that kind of buyer's remorse. The one piece, which *I* think was very cool, where others might find a bit creepy, but a couple hours after my first internet connected smoke, I received a text message from Traeger asking how my first smoke went. I'm fine with my data going to them (will help if I ever have problems, in assisting them in troubleshooting). That is how enhancements are made -- seeing how people are actually using their equipment. The other piece was how many people out there use smokers! I found at work that literally half the folks use smokers at home -- I had no idea. Loved the lunchtime discussions about whether the roast going in is fat cap down or up, and which rub they like the best. I was at a holiday party at my brother's over the weekend and brought smoked cream cheese and crackers. "You smoked this? It's delicious!" and "What kind of smoker do you have?... Traeger? NICE..!" Who knew there was a "hidden" community out there? Now the only issue is how I'm going to keep my weight down. LOVING this machine and what comes out of it. I do not regret the spend at all. Thanks, Traeger, may this honeymoon continue for many years to come...

$2000 Grill DOA - Read all Ironwood 1 Star Reviews - Updated Below - Sorry So Long
I ordered the Traeger Ironwood XL. This is my first Pellet Fed Grill and decided to go first class. Assembly was average. Not as easy as shown in the videos. The side shelf was the most irritating to assemble. But done and all excited to season this bad boy up (I have a big cookout planned in two weeks). Computer screen walked me through everything then the alarm went off. Ignitor Error Code 0026. After a couple more times of trying I called Traeger Customer Support. Actually got to talk with a live person in less than 2 minutes. It took a while but he was very helpful. Apparently the ignitor is bad and they are having to ship a new one out to me for me to replace. Ok not that big of a deal. But seeing how I would like to practice on the grill a little before I grill for my Mom's 80th birthday I asked if it could be next day shipped. NOPE has to go 5-6 business days shipping before I get it. ..... This is a $2000 grill but they could not ship a small part next day to me. So this will most likely be my first and last Traeger. I work for a Major Appliance Manufacturer in NC and we send engineers to consumers homes out of state at times to diagnose issues but Traeger can't next day ship a part to me. Poor customer support. My daughter had just asked me today what I thought as far as getting her husband a Traeger. Just got off the phone with her and told her to buy another Brand. Update: Part Finally Came in. Still DEAD. Same Failure Code. Now they want to send me a motherboard for me to replace. When I asked about a Service Technician coming out, Traeger became IRRATE. I asked to speak with their manager and they were as bad. Please Note: I was pleasant during the entire call ... I just was requesting immediate service. They do not service under warranty unless you take it to a Service Center. Now I missed Father's Day Cook Out and tomorrow 6/24/23 will miss cooking for my Mom's 80'th Birthday. My son in law will do the cooking on his different Brand Pellet Grill that he got for Father's Day and it's working great. Upside to this. I called Amazon. Got a great advisor on the second ring. She was very helpful and appalled over how Traeger was handling this situation. She is sending a new replacement grill on the 27th and Amazon will pick up the defective grill as is at that time. I missed both times I wanted to cook with it but Amazon is standing behind the 30 day return policy. I am concerned with the quality of the Ironwood XL . There are allot of complaints about it with the same issue I've had. And do not expect allot from Traeger Customer Support. It appears they go by a script and will have you replace parts either until it's fixed or the return window runs out. They will have you replace the cheapest parts first.

Easy, easy, easy
I’m unsure i could find enough praise for this smoker. Easy to use - set it and forget it. Controls are easy, love two temp probes. My only issue has been the wifi and keeping it connected all the time. I’m working with Traeger on it as we speak.

Amazing Grill, Highly Recommend Ironwood XL!
I previously owned a Traeger Pro 780, which was an exceptional workhorse. I was quite disappointed to sell it when we moved back to the Continental U.S., but I was excited to upgrade to something bigger and better. The Traeger Ironwood XL has truly impressed me, though I had a few issues with the delivery and assembly that I’ll explain below. Delivery and Assembly Issues (1 star deduction): The problem wasn’t with the Traeger grill itself but with Amazon’s delivery service. The grill was assembled incorrectly with several parts installed backwards. Additionally, one wheel insert was broken, and none of the screws or bolts were tightened. Four screws were stripped, and one was cross-threaded. The delivery team even took the Traeger-provided tools, which I had set aside for the assembly. I managed to resolve these issues with Amazon customer support, who were helpful. However, it took a few hours to fix the screws, replace the wheel, and tighten everything properly. For those in the mid-South area, I’d recommend avoiding Amazon’s assembly service to sidestep these kinds of issues. Digital Control: This is my first WiFire grill, and the digital control has been excellent. The setup was quick and efficient, and features like the timer, temperature monitoring, and pellet sensing are user-friendly and intuitive. My only minor issue is that it only supports 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, which might not be compatible with modern dual-band routers. I resolved this by moving far enough away for my phone to switch to the 2.4GHz network. An update to the app to support dual-band Wi-Fi or direct grill connection would be a valuable improvement. Durable Build: The Ironwood XL is constructed from heavy-duty steel with a powder-coated finish. Despite being exposed to rain during my first three uses, it cleaned up effortlessly, showing no signs of damage. The grill is very sturdy and well-built, though it is quite heavy (over 200 pounds) and larger than the Pro 780 due to the side shelf and larger pellet container. Pop & Lock Rail: The Pop & Lock Rail is a fantastic addition, offering versatility for adding or removing grill tools and accessories. It’s easy to use, compatible with all PAL accessories, and simple enough for custom 3D-printed accessories if needed. Smoker/Grill Capability: This model offers significantly more smoke capability compared to lower-end Traegers. The soft gasket around the lid enhances heat and smoke retention, and the temperature control remains accurate, within +/- 10 degrees. The improved grease drain and ash removal system is a notable upgrade, making maintenance simpler. Comparison to Traeger Pro 780: The Ironwood XL is a major upgrade from the Pro 780, with enhanced control systems and better smoke and heat retention. The updated exhaust system improves performance significantly, and cleaning is easier with the undercarriage grease and ash tray. While the Ironwood XL is advertised as larger than the Pro 780, the space feels comparable, so this might not be a crucial factor in deciding between models. Overall: Despite the hiccup with Amazon’s delivery and assembly, which was resolved satisfactorily, the Traeger Ironwood XL is a 5-star product. I am very satisfied with this grill/smoker and would definitely purchase it again!

Its big
Well, it’s pricey and it’s big. Really big. I can feed a family of 10. Seems kinda silly for anything less but I’ve always wanted a big obnoxious grill and This fit the bill, I love it. The temp is 15* off not sure if that’s normal but i have a few extra thermometers and probs to keep an eye on things.

Simply Awesome
I’m a long time Traeger owner - been using a Lil Tex for years. Time to upgrade and picked up an Ironwood XL. This thing is on another level! The controls and mobile app are great. This thing generates much more smoke than my old Traeger. Just set it and forget it. The insulated walls allows it to get HOT! I could never get my old one past about 350 - the Ironwood had no problem getting to 500 degrees (during burn off and seasoning). The ability to empty the hopper is awesome and allows indoor storage of pellets which is important in high humidity areas of the country. The hopper level sensor works great - there is even a light in the hopper so you can check the level, even in the dark! Build quality is first class. Beautiful powder coating, solid, substantial materials. I’m very happy with the Ironwood.

Extremely disappointed
Got the smoker night before Thanksgiving. My initial impression was the cook surface was small and I was not impressed with the build. Had difficulty setting up wifi, but got that worked out. Seasoned it the same night. Started the initial cook Thanksgiving morning. Ran it for 2hrs at 225f with super smoke on before I started putting food on. Loaded 4 slabs of ribs no problems. 1 hour later loaded my turkey. Came back an hour later and the temp had dropped inside the 80s. It was still smoking and still loading pellets. Couldn't get it to bring the temp up. Finally did a full shutdown cycle. Restarted and then 20 min after the restart the temp came up. The temp then blew past 225 into the 400s and the unit then caught fire both inside both inside and underneath. I shut the whole unit down. Fire went out quickly. Now the unit's control panel won't turn on. I can only guess the auger malfunctioned and kept pumping in too many pellets. The pellets were brand new, shiny, and in good condition, so pellet quality was not the issue. This was a brand new unit on its first cook, so no build up. Thankfully I had enough time left to salvage Thanksgiving dinner. This Traeger was not my first choice due to cost, but I took a chance with the hope the unit would be amazing. It was not. I can't send it back fast enough.
