A Bit of a Disappointment
My view of Phillips electronics has always been the same - average to good quality, with few or no ‘bells and whistles’, this item was about the same. Set-up was simple and no need to consult the manual. However, when the manual was consulted; the reality was not good. Firstly it is supplied on disc. Second - it is a good but obvious translation from another language. Next - Just try to find anything. This is a ‘conglomerate’ of several manuals; i.e. it covers several different monitors. Picking out which applies to this one is tedious. One problem is; it ‘details’ several options that are just not available, and when checking your model number some of the ID’s have 56 digits. Work that out! On trying to adjust the settings; I found that the brightness / contrast worked OK, but there appeared no way to adjust the sound. It didn’t really matter as the sound didn’t work anyway. It is possible that the sound was set to HDMI, but as the menus on this version did not support change from HDMI to ‘Audio In’, it didn’t seem likely. I can’t be sure as my computer doesn’t support HDMI sound out, but I doubt it. So; apart from the sound it started up instantly and displayed the extended desktop on my Mac. Do be aware Mac owners - this is not Mac friendly: If it doesn’t start up right away there is no Mac help to guide you - you are on your own. Phillips website is no help either. The link to get the Q&A simply takes you to the ‘Home Screen’, asking “What do you want to buy?” Very helpful. My own view: I expect it to be reliable, and the screen worked perfectly with all the picture adjustments I need, but caveat with the sound, and the abysmal manual. My own need is for a second screen for an extended desktop, so the sound didn’t matter, but do be aware, I tested this as my main screen and with different cables and speakers - all worked except this monitor. To sum up:- Installed instantly (PC’s may need to install drivers, included on the disc) Not Mac friendly - manual is in PDF / Safari format, but included software is PC only. Picture works fine - No sound! Sound didn’t matter to me, but if it doesn’t work for you, don’t expect any help, you only recourse is to change it.
