5 STARS (minus the manual which is horrible). Try the following…
I’ve had this machine for well over a year, used it heavily 3-5 times a week, and love it! But, you have to know what the manual leaves out to make it work really well and efficiently. AND, you DO actually have to read the manual. It took me 6 months to make this the best machine I have ever used with lots of trial and error. A better manual would have saved me so much time! I have had nearly every problem listed in the reviews but so far have discovered it was either user (my!) error or there is an easy way to fix the problem. So, here is my manual in no great order! *First, it has to be put together just right. If things aren’t clicked in, anything is loose, whatever, go back and re-assemble everything to make sure everything is in place. Seems silly, but it makes a huge difference. It leaked everywhere my first use and the lid to the formula dispenser wasn’t on exactly right. Next, this isn’t a machine like a regular vacuum where you make one swipe up and back and move to the adjoining “swipe.” The way it has worked best for me is to : 1. First, divide the floor into sections and clean each section one at a time. I often use tile lines to keep track of where I am. For instance, in an average sized square kitchen, divide it into 4 smaller squares. Do each section separately. I use the STEAM setting almost exclusively. 2. For the first up and back swipes, squeeze the water/formula dispenser button most or the entire time, covering the first small section. Holding the dispenser button the whole time will leave areas that are too wet and streaky. That’s ok. The extra liquid that sits while you do the rest of that section helps soak loose any tough spots or stains. If you don’t do small sections at a time and try to do the entire floor at once, you will have a huge wet mess or an unclean, streaky floor. 3. Next, WITHOUT using the water/formula button (vacuum function only), go back over that same section using similar back and forth swipes, just a little more slowly, to suck up the extra liquid. It uses the steam to really clean the area well that way also. Depending on how dirty the floor was, you may need to use a little more liquid here and there and dry vacuum that up again. After you have gone over the area with the vacuum function only (and if you’re a perfectionist like I am), you may want to go diagonally over the same area to remove any tiny lines that are left and get rid of any streaks you see. When you get the hang of this, cleaning a hard floor goes super, super fast and the floor looks great! Plus, it is mostly dry right away if you have gone over it enough with the steam/vacuum function only. More tips: * It does edges and corners very well, but if it’s missing dirt or debris somewhere along a wall or floorboard, try to go horizontally along the edge rather than approaching it vertically or “head on” (or vice versa). Once in a while it won’t reach into a really tight corner and you have to use a cloth or something. Not very often though. * If the floor has a ton of animal hair, big leaves, lots of debris, sweep that up first with a broom or vacuum. This machine is great but not a shopvac! * The first couple times you use it you will be shocked at the amount of dirt, lint, hair, debris, etc. that it sucks up. If you have cleaned a really dirty area and the machine starts leaving debris, you probably need to rinse out the dirty liquid container and other parts. Clean the machine out VERY well after each use. It sucks up so much you didn’t see that it takes a bit to rinse off all the parts. You should also let it dry in between uses. * When filling the clean water/formula bottle, I use a little less formula than the line indicates and add a little more water. If you are getting too many suds on the floor, use a more dilute formula. The steam function with warm water in the bottle alone is actually sufficient without any formula for lots of uses. * You can clean the replaceable filters by opening the mesh trap door and rinsing really well on both sides. Eventually you will need to replace it, but I definitely don’t do it as often as recommended because you can run clean water through it from both directions and make it last a lot longer. * Once I started using this and got the hang of it, all I could imagine was how a regular mop just moved around the dirt. There is a learning curve so I’d give it til the very end of the return window to send it back unless you e tried it multiple times or something is clearly broken. * Finally, I wouldn’t bother with the cordless models. Tried those and they ran out of battery way too fast using the above described method. Good luck from a home with a 12 year old, 2 dogs and 2 kittens with a (mostly!) clean floor!!

The best mop-vac I've ever owned!
I seriously own way too many cleaning gadgets, Dyson V15, a separate steam mop, a Eufy robot mopvac, and I used to have the Bissell CrossWave Turbo (Hard Floor + Area Rug Wet Dry Vac). So when I say I like this Bissell vacuum mop, it’s not because I don’t have anything else to compare it to… I’ve basically tried everything short of hiring a cleaning crew. 😅 I’ve been using this one since July 2025, and it’s become my go-to for the stuff that happens in real life: muddy paw prints, Hawaii red dirt (if you know you know), wet messes, and that gritty “how is the floor dirty AGAIN?” feeling. I still let my Eufy handle the general whole-house maintenance, but this Bissell is what I grab for spot cleaning and actual deep cleaning. Why I keep reaching for it I love that it’s basically 3-in-1: vacuum + mop + steam. That matters when you have two large breed puppies and you’re dealing with red dirt/mud constantly. It doesn’t just smear the mess around. It actually picks it up and leaves the floor feeling clean, not “wet-but-still-dirty.” I use it around 10 times a day for quick spot messes (yes, really), and I’ll do a full floor clean twice a day (morning and night) just to keep things under control. The big upgrade vs. my old CrossWave Turbo The CrossWave worked, but what I hated was the cleanup after using it. This newer vacuum mop is just… way more user-friendly. Easier to clean after each use. The dirty water setup is smarter and less gross to deal with. The strainer is a game changer. It catches hair and little objects so I can just grab them out quickly. No clogged pipe, no digging around later. Self-cleaning actually helps the brush roll last longer. The brush roll is easy to maintain, and it stays in better shape over time. Less hair tangling than the green Bissell CrossWave. Somehow hair doesn’t wrap around on brush roll as badly, which is huge if you have pets (or long hair in general). - Cons (real ones, but manageable) It’s corded. Some people will automatically hate that, but I honestly don’t mind, it feels more powerful and consistent. I’ll take the cord for better and powerful cleaning. Dirty water tank is on the small side. This one’s important: if the dirty water hits the fill line, it can flood, so you have to keep an eye on it. I’ve learned to empty it before it gets close, especially after a really muddy day. Final thoughts Even with my Dyson V15 and the Eufy robot, this Bissell vacuum mop has earned its spot because it’s fast, powerful, and (big bonus) way easier to clean and maintain than my old CrossWave Turbo. If you have pets, deal with muddy floors, or just want something that can handle quick messes without turning into a whole project afterward.

Nearly perfect for ceramic tile w/ deep grout and grooves!
Update 12/09/23: I’ve included pictures of our tile floor types and they get cleaner with every cleaning! We now have a dog in our household along with 4 kitties and 4 humans, so TONS of fur and kitty litter, and human messes lol! I have been using ‘It’s Naturally Clean’ floor cleaner for all types of flooring and it’s awesome! It only takes one small capful per clean water reservoir and does a phenomenal job! It’s one I discovered on EWG’s website which is for sustainable, safe product information verified unbiased and is a nonprofit organization dedicated to transparency and health for all inhabitants of Earth, including non-humans. I still use the Hydrosteam every two weeks and am down to 2-3 clean tank refills and twice as many empty bin refills. I use the automatic clean function 2 times after each use and then thoroughly rinse everything, including the very front of the unit’s head where the roller resides, quickly under hot water in my laundry sink. I recently noticed a buildup of kitty litter beginning inside the suction tube, which is to be expected as I don’t vacuum nor sweep prior to using this machine and that is the purpose of kitty litter-to absorb moisture. So I used hot water to flush the tubing from where the dirty water reservoir would reside and ran the water through until it came clean and I’ve had no problems but will update if anything changes 👍🏽 I also recently brought this to my friend’s house where she has dark hardwood flooring throughout her 3900 sq. ft. house and every little speck of anything shows on it. She wanted to test it out and is also buying one because she was so impressed as was I and there were no streaks. We used the hard floor setting on her wood floors and the steam function on her tiled areas in bathrooms and laundry room. She was wearing a somewhat new pair of Nike shoes that’s she’s worn for a few months inside and outside, and after the cleaning of the first section of her floors, her shoes ‘squeaked’ on those areas-both tile and wood-but none of the others in her house and she said “I now understand what the saying squeaky clean means” lol! Needless to say she was impressed and is also going to buy the Naturally it’s Clean Floor Cleaner to use in her new Bissell Hydrosteam! *End Update* This is an almost perfect cleaning device! We have a 4 person household with 4 cats which includes lots of fur, food particles, and litter tracking. I do a full house (3000 sq. ft.) clean every two weeks and more than half of our house is tile and the remainder is high pile carpet. I thought purchasing this I would still have to use my Dyson vacuum to vacuum around the edges and corners of the tile floors. Fortunately this does not need to occur! I am truly amazed at the engineering that went into this tool and am still in awe of the suction power and steam mopping capabilities! The ceramic tile in our house has very wide but deep grout circa 2003 and was professionally cleaned upon moving into it in 2012. Over the years it has built up discolored residues in heavily used areas of the house mostly in the kitchen around the sink, dishwasher, and stove where the grout is very dark and dirty. This vac mop visibly and noticeably made a positive improvement upon the first use as I could literally see the grime being sucked up! I’ve used this twice so far and am so happy with my purchase. I’ve owned and own several Bissell products over the years-Big Green Carpet cleaner (which I sent to my mom a few years ago since she’s older and would rent carpet cleaners every few months to clean her expensive and almost 40 year old Persian rugs so I wanted to alleviate that taxing burden for her), steam mop, Pro Pet Revolution Carpet Cleaner, and pet mess hand wet/dry vacuum which looks like what some may know as a dust buster from back in the day). All these products are awesome except that the quality of the steam mop wasn’t up to my experience with Bissell standards that I’m accustomed. The steam mop was $70-80 new but I bought it used on Amazon in 12/2022 and it began leaking a couple of months ago which is a common problem with that model based upon reviews. My assumption is that you get what you pay for more often than not and same saying applies to Bissell. I store this Hydrosteam vac in the garage next to an outlet for the self-cleaning function which is loud and much louder than the actual cleaning functions. The self-cleaning capability is also awesome and works very well. I do it twice after use as per instructions and used the brush roll cleaning sample solution included, and follow the instructions for cleaning and storing except that I allow everything to thoroughly dry for several days before reassembly. This vac mop is much quieter than I expected and much quieter than my Dyson vac which is a huge plus for me and the kitties though they still don’t like it! I look forward to a future when human machines and motors have very little to nonexistent sound! The cons of this product for me are minor and do not warrant a return for something that saves me much time and energy with cleaning obligations. The cons so far are: 1) I wish the cord was slightly longer and that the cord holder clip held it in place a little tighter. I had more issues with the cord dislodging during my first use so that could be due to user error; however, I was more mindful of trying to keep it in place during my second use 2) The size of this unit is great and it’s very lightweight and the maneuverability is impressive! The only place I cannot use this for my tile is around 1 toilet (3 total toilets in house) on one of the sides nor around the backside of any of the toilets. But I’ve just modified my cleaning regiment to use my sponge to clean these areas during bathroom cleaning. 3) I wish the wastewater/dirty water tank had a larger capacity. Actually it would be better if both tanks had larger capacities, but the clean water tank capacity has allowed two cleaning passes per one emptying of the dirty water tank. However, I do hold the trigger the majority of the time I’m using this vac mop and a trigger lock would also be a nice addition. I was dumping the dirty water tank into the toilet but this was messier for me so I now just use the kitchen sink with garbage disposer. I give the dirty water tank a rinse after each dumping except I don’t rinse the filter, which isn’t actually that dirty even at the end, until I’m finished cleaning. Most of the dirty material ends up in the dirty water tank plastic sifting part which I will empty into the garbage can opposed to garbage disposal sink if it’s really full of mostly cat fur which occurs after the kitchen and the kitties ADU area. For more than half of 3000 sq. ft. of use with this vac mop, for which I use the steam setting the entire time, I empty and refill the tanks 3-4 times for clean water tank and 6-8 times for the dirty water tank. I was using Bissell’s Natural Pet Floor Cleaner for Crosswave machine which I had purchased for my Bissell Revolution Pet Carpet Cleaner because I don’t like all of the excess, unnecessary, and unhealthy chemicals used in many cleaning products these days. I’m going to try a truly ‘natural’ floor cleaning product next time I clean with this unit and will update my review based upon that experience and also provide pictures of my tile floors. I was so excited to leave a review for this lol because it is really awesome and I’m so impressed overall! Oh last point to mention is that I do have to make a few passes over some dried on gunk usually food related and/or pet related but this unit still saves me soooo much time and energy. I’ve found the most efficient solution to clean these dried on filths is to make a pass over it, holding the trigger, and letting the cleaning solution soak while I clean around it and then I’ll come back to it and clean it up which sometimes does take more than once. I’ll also clean these spots from different angles depending on the grooves and fissures in the tiles. I have recommended this cleaning unit to everyone I know because it is such a beneficial addition to my cleaning routine and really provides a deep thorough cleaning with ease of use and also mostly cleans itself at least for the brushroll which would be the most time consuming part if manual cleaning was necessitated

Super Handy
Perfect for hardwood floors. Easy to clean. We love this so much. I would say that as it is decent for carpets it isnt going to get them as clean as you would expect from a typical shampooer. So dont get this if you plan on using it on a lot of carpets.

Big improvement over older model
TLDR: This unit is great. Buy it. 6 week update and PRO TIP: The dirty reservoir is pretty large, but the bypass valve shuts off way way way before the reservoir is anywhere near full. The lid of the reservoir has a float on its underside. Idea is when the dirty water is high enough to lift the float, the vacuum will suck the float the rest of the way up and block off the inlet to the vacuum motor. Which is fine - but I think Bissell set the bypass point way too low - so the motor bypasses WAY before the reservoir actually needs to be emptied. If you look at the underside of the (black) reservoir lid, the (gray) float simply rides on a track. It's simply enough to pry the float out of the track. Doing this will prevent the motor from bypassing. Ever. So now you don't have to empty the reservoir anywhere near as often. HOWEVER!!! Now it's up to YOU to ensure you don't let the dirty water get high enough that you risk it getting sucked into the vacuum motor. If you're a tinkerer - you could cut a small hole into the float and add lead shot (or similar) to weigh it down. Obviously you'll need to test/tune to find the correct weight that retains the automatic bypass feature - but delays it until the reservoir is more full. THE BACK STORY: I've had an older Crosswave for 8 or 9 years. Hard to say for sure, but I think the last year or so it wasn't working as well as new, particularly its ability to suck the liquid back up off the floor. I'm cleaning up messes, daily and oftentimes multiple times per day, on account of two Weimaraners that are nearly 16 years old... So my old CW has really been getting a workout. The CW finally died last week. Honestly it deserves a Viking-style funeral... Had no problem ordering another Bissell. Basically, I ordered this one because it was the fanciest most expensive one available with a cord. I don't like to be beholden to the whims of a finicky battery. I just want to plug it in and have reliable power for as long as I want. THIS NEW UNIT: This one works way, way better than the old one, and has a bunch of new and improved features Suction: Big improvement. Hoovers the moisture up off the floor really well. Hoovers the solution out of the crevices between the hardwood boards really well. Works considerably better than my old unit did - even when it was new. Very pleased. Clean Reservoir: Same as the old one. Interchangeable, I think. I've noticed it seems to go through cleaning solution faster than the old one. Quite fast, in fact. For my purposes - dealing with heavy messes - this is an improvement - but you'll need to refill the reservoir for every 100-150 square feet, even if you're only doing a "moderate" clean. Dirty Reservoir: Improved. Bissell added a lift-out basket that collects the heavy stuff. Thus, you can dump that out into the trash before pouring out the dirty mop water. Nice feature. However, the "suction bypass" valve that opens and forces you to empty the mop water is set to open earlier than the old model - and the reservoir isn't very full. No big deal, but considering the machine goes through cleaning solution pretty fast and does such an effective job sucking it back up - means you'll be filling/emptying the reservoirs pretty often. Brush Roller: Slightly improved. It has a pull tab that's easier to get ahold of so you can lift out and remove the roller. Otherwise, it's more or less the same as before. Steam: Surprisingly effective. Heats up surprisingly fast! While the steam function is NOT comparable to a legitimate steam cleaner (I have a Dupray), it definitely helps lift off messes that have dried onto the floor. It'd be awesome if it offered as much steaming power as a real steam cleaner - but it does help and thankfully it heats up in only 30 seconds or so. Headlight: A welcome addition. I would have thought this was just a gimmick - but it honestly does help you see what your doing and focus on problem areas. It gets brighter when you pull the trigger to dispense cleaning solution. It also stays on WHENEVER the unit is plugged in. I don't love that because I keep my unit plugged in and ready to go all the time - but that's because I'm dealing with two senior dogs that have a lot of accidents. Self Clean: Also very very welcome. I also thought this was a gimmick - but it works really well. No, it doesn't do a 100% job of cleaning out the brush roller and compartment - but it gives it a solid once-over. Nice improvement. Docking Station: Another very welcome addition. First, it fits the shape of the business-end of the machine perfectly so the unit can sort of seal itself up to effectively perform its self-clean function. Secondly, it creates a place to store the unit where the left-over moisture on the brush roller doesn't get on the floor - particularly important if you'll be storing the unit sitting on hardwood that will get stained by moisture that can soak in. This effects me because I use the unit so often (2X per day) that I keep it at the ready, all the time. Mode Selection: A simple but nice detail - the unit stays in whatever mode you were in when you LAST used it - rather than you having to set the mode every time you turn the unit on. Thank you. Noise Level: A little quieter than the old one, but still loud. No problem for me. Overall, seems like a great unit so far and it's nice to see all the improvements Bissell has implemented. Hopefully this new unit is a long-lasting trooper like the old one was.

Does the job at a good price
I bought this Bissell after I had tried the Tineco One S3 Cordless and returned it since it didn't seem worth the price. It left sticky messes on the floor despite claiming to sense them... and it would incessantly TALK and require the "cleaning cycle" ad nauseam. So annoying. While there were some things I liked about the Tineco design, the battery didn't last while use in my small apartment, and it didn't actually suck up the dirt that was stuck to the floor. I decided to buy this Bissell and check it out since I felt that I needed more "steam power" to pick up the sandy dirt flecks that get stuck to my linoleum floor. I live near the ocean, so it seems I get this weird sticky dirt that won't come up from normal mopping, sweeping or vacuuming. I shed a lot of hair, too, so it almost seemed a bonus if pet owners liked this! This model seemed to have better reviews among the steam-powered mops out there. I like it for a variety of reasons.. I prefer the fact it has a cord. As annoying as the cord is, at least I don't have to wait for the battery to re-charge constantly. The Tineco wouldn't last through my entire small apartment, which was annoying. I'm not big into housecleaning, so when I feel inspired to do so, I expect my tools to comply. Granted, I'm sure the higher end models have longer lasting batteries, but I don't feel like spending $800+ on a vacuum. The cord for this Bissell is pretty long and I had no issues using it in my apartment, I only needed to unplug and replug twice. The cleaning solution is cheaper in the long run verses the Tineco, which is a bonus. The water tank seemed to last longer than in the Tineco. I didn't need to refill the Bissell multiple times while cleaning my tiny apartment. The motor on the Bissell didn't force me at a certain pace, unlike the Tineco. Although the Tineco claimed to sense the dirt on the floor, I didn't notice any better cleaning outcome when it would slow down and concentrate power. With the Bissell, I can go off my own intuition with the dirt and use it as I see fit. The Bissell also has a "trigger" so you can put out more cleaning solution, whereas the Tineco doesn't give you that option. I prefer the vacuum that gives ME the choice about where I want to use more cleaning solution, which the Bissell does. They both seemed similarly simple in terms of cleaning out after use, thankfully the Bissell doesn't whine that it needs to be cleaned incessantly. Obviously, the Bissell model I chose has the steam option. There is a Tineco with a steam option that I was tempted to buy, but the reviews seemed iffy and it was more expensive.

Have to use the Bissell soap for it to work well.
I got this on prime day and I was less than impressed. While it worked better than the Shark, it really depended on the use of it's soap. It really didn't clean up well without it's soap using only the steam function. We did a friend's sealed wooden floor with both the Bissell and the Tineco 5 Steam mop (not the one with AI). Without the soap, the floors were still streaky and dingy. With the soap, the floors were shiny. In contrast, the Tineco got the floors clean and shiny without the help of any soap. Here were the reasons we ended up returning it. -heavy, it was much heavier than the Tineco -my short kids had trouble keeping the head of the vac/mop level with the floor while holding the handle. When the handle was at a comfortable height for the two middle kids, the head of Bissell was lifted up off the floor. -very very loud, the Tineco is much quieter as is the Shark, but the Shark does a terrible job. -had to use to soap to do a good job. I prefer to avoid spending $ on soap just to get something to work well. -didn't pick up larger items like a piece of dog food or cooked broccoli off of the floor. What's the point of being able to vacuum and mop at the same time if you have to get small stuff like dog food off of the floor?

This thing is a GEM once you figure it out
I was at the END OF MY ROPE with my floors being constantly dirty. With 2 kids, 2 dogs, and 1 husband, I just couldn't keep up. By the time I'd get them vacuumed and find time to mop, they'd be dirty again. We don't typically waste money on things like this, so I debated for a long time, and did a lot of shopping, and read a lot of reviews before I finally pulled the trigger on this model. TOTALLY WORTH IT. I did get it on sale on Black Friday, so that helped soften the blow. Pros: -Easy to operate, there's only like 3 buttons total, so its pretty easy to figure out, even for a blonde like me -Does a pretty decent job at cleaning my multiple floor types (vinyl, hard wood, area rugs, and tile). Are they as clean as a good old fashioned hands and knees scrub? No. But ain't nobody got time for that. -It picks up the dog hair without getting clogged -Refreshes area rugs without leaving them sopping wet -Self-cleaning function is WAY better than previous models, you just sit it onto the base tray and push the button -You can use whatever cleaning solution tickles your fancy, you aren't forced to buy their branded refills (ahem, Swiffer). This is nice for the crunchier families that aim for more natural/plant based products. Cons: -This thing is LOUD. Like, blender loud. Not a dealbreaker for me, but if you're planning to clean the floors after your kid is asleep, something to be aware of. -Dirty water tank holds a very small amount compared to the clean tank, so you will need to dump the dirty water multiple times during your cleaning session. Annoying, but whatever. I saw some reviews complaining about the machine leaving dirty water streaks, thats because their dirty tank is too full. Took me one time to figure that out, easy fix. -There isn't a trigger lock, so if you are cleaning large areas, your finger will get tired from holding down the trigger (first world problem here, but worth mentioning) -It is bulky. Obviously, it has to be to have room for the motor, and both the clean and dirty tanks, but compared to my stick vac, it is heavier, not as easy to maneuver, and doesn't get under the furniture. Wasn't a surprise, I knew what I was buying. Size compares to your standard bagless model. -Cleaning it out when you're done using it is totally gross if you live with heathens like I do. You do have to still take it all apart and rinse it, clean out the parts, let the roller dry, and wipe up any dirt left in the tray after the self clean cycle. Even with adding on the clean up time, I am still saving time overall compared to vacuuming and mopping in two separate steps. Overall, very happy with this model, the pros outweigh the cons for our family and needs. Is it perfect, no, and I'm sure they're working on a new model that will address some of these gripes, but thats how technology works.
