I'd like to preface this by saying I am an adult doll collector and I hold high standards for my dolls. All of my dolls are in the $150-$900 price range so I have some expectations when a doll is a certain price. This my first 18" doll, I have not owned one of this size/type before. This doll is made in Germany, including her outfit. Her outfit is very high quality - all seams are SERGED (meaning they are finished by machine and cannot fray) and her shoes are not plastic, even having a soft ballet sole! The bows on the shoes are actual elastic just like on real ballet shoes! The tights are thick, just like real children's tights! I'm very impressed with this set. Hair: her hair is really nice and full. It will come tied in a ponytail with a little piece tied at the front. Please be advised that for transportation, preservative, or processing efficiency, MOST companies will coat doll hair with something. Götz has used some kind of wax or spray which gives the hair a kind of dry feel, which does not stop you from rubbing your fingers through it or combing it. If you want the hair to be softer you can shampoo & condition and I highly recommend doing that because it feels like human hair now....it's SO SOFT!!! I absolutely love it. Packaging: there is very little plastic and NO wires. If you are buying for a child, you do not need any scissors to get the doll out. She is secured to the backing carboard by paper twine and plastic clips, and all you do is unwrap the twine from the hooks on the plastic clips. The only things requiring scissors are her tag, which is held on to her outfit by the standard little plastic attachment, and her leotard and coverlet are connected by a thread. She also has a Götz emblem bracelet on the right wrist which can be removed only by cutting off. In conclusion this packaging is really child friendly. Her box comes in a normal brown box with some brown packing paper, nothing fancy, it doesn't say anything on the box so if you want to keep it secret from kids you can. This doll has joints at the elbows and knees which gives her greater amount of motion. They don't bend 90 degrees but they do bend enough where her posing looks more natural. The torso is fully vinyl, there is no fabric body like competitors, which means she can wear ANYTHING. Her face is really nice, simple and sweet. She's adorable! I'd purchased some Our Generation outfit sets from Target to give her something to wear beside the ballet outfit, it fits fairly well. The plastic shoes in that set do fit her just fine. I highly recommend this doll!
