I've read about a dozen stock trading books and I'm usually disappointed because the author walks right up to the precipice of providing useful information and then jaw-droppingly stops. It's almost as if those authors are knowingly reneging on the promise of their book title and subtitle (which profusely promise all kinds of great things). Actually, pretty annoying but not this one. Brian Shannon's book, Maximum Trading Gains with Anchored VWAP, is not at all like that. It is clearly written and nearly flawless in its chart reference correctness, and useful and richly detailed instruction. I actually had to stop occasionally and marvel since I'd never seen a trading book like it before with the exception of William O'Neill's timeless classic, How to Make Money in Stocks. The charts are in color, clear printed, and on high quality paper - really easy to see and read. They aren't there to take up page space, they actually teach and illustrate. Mr. Shannon somehow was able to reference the charts, in the book's text, by number and purpose correctly without exception - no small feat. Hmmm, I suspect a really good editor. Even the chart captions provided useful and important information - I'll bet Mr. Shannon is thinking, "I'll be darned someone noticed!". The book is organized in a way that each chapter builds on what was presented in the previous chapter which is also uncommon. But what is the real icing on the cake is that the writing is precise, succinct, and easy to follow. The sentences actually flow nicely. I was probably most surprised by the sense that Mr. Shannon wrote in a way that didn't waste a word. Yes, he repeats certain conceptual phrases, but it is always to drill in an important thought or skill and was never superfluous padding like so many others. Last but not least, the author sprinkles quotes from famous people, although not always related to trading directly, every one of them is relevant and pithy. I highly recommend this book. I know it seems a little pricey, but I promise you it is worth every single penny. Actually, because of the obvious time spent to get it right, thoughtfulness, usefulness, and effort to make it a great trading book, I actually decided it was a great bargain.

I've been a subscriber of Brian Shannon's since almost the beginning. Brian has always been consistent and diligent in his methods and what he delivers to his subscribers. He genuinely gets his satisfaction from seeing people trade successfully using information and techniques that he has taught and provided. This book aligns with those traits that Brian has. I've learned a lot about VWAP and AVWAP just by learning from Brian in videos, but this book takes everything about AVWAP so much deeper than I actually expected. I was actually a bit shocked at the amount of new information that's in the book. The book is very well laid out. It has a very logical approach, giving you full details about the background for the approaches to trades, and how to implement AVWAP in combination with his other trading methods. There are good overviews, details, and then quick chapter summaries, which I always find useful for reinforcing what I've learned, and when referring to it later. What I really like is that, chapter after chapter, it's almost like a set of multiple step-by-step approaches to actionable trading techniques. He sets the background, then lays out the approach within the trades, with detailed charts. What to look for, what's important, how to proceed, what steps to take next, elements to be careful of, and which subsequent steps to take, depending on how a trade moves. This is what so many trading books are often actually lacking. There's a lot of information here. If you can read it, get a good comprehension of the material, adhere to it, and keep taking the steps that are clearly laid out for you to follow, then you've just been given immense advantages towards achieving consistently successful trading techniques. I had high expectations for Brian's book, knowing what he has produced in the past. My expectations were exceeded, by far.

I have been interested in using Avwap for a while, it seemed pretty simple at first and boy was I wrong. My studies have led me to realize that major institutional investors have been using Avwap for decades now. I wanted to learn more about it and followed mr Shannon on twitter. I learned about this book and decided it was something I needed to read. My first impressions were that it was well thought out and put together. Beautiful color illustration of charts. If you have read enough technical analysis books you know the charts are black and white (very difficult read). This book is hard cover with bright clear charts. Everything is explained perfectly. The chapters aren’t too long and keep your attention. I was hoping just to learn where to anchor the Avwap. There is way more uses than I could have ever dreamed off. Avwap squeezes, like Bollinger bands. Learning how to knife catch with Avwap as in when people are in profit who are likely to defend their position. anchoring Avwap from gaps, volume breakouts. Layering anchors. It goes on and on. I really think this is a great book for a beginner or experienced trader. Even if you just buy stocks every couple of months, this is a great book that is easy to read. Highly recommended !

Brian is a genius when it comes to explaining complex trading strategies in a way that is easy to understand and apply. This is a must have for swing traders. Brian has unique insights on AVWAP that any trader will find useful. My only criticism is that the content seems to get repeated a lot. Perhaps this is by design as sometimes repetition increases learning, but for I found it tedious.
