this keeps the mic. from falling to the floor or smashing into the radio when you let go or drop it .

After three months of occasional use (2-3 days per week) it has already broken. I was on the radio and when I put the microphone away the reel stopped retracting about 4" before it should have. Now it won't move at all.

Don’t waste your time ordering this, it snapped in the first few hrs of using it. Should have know by how cheap it was, lesson learned
