They didn't sound as sharp, tension was higher but the deciding factor was always the longevity of coated strings. Recently tried D'addario XT's and they were good but only lasted 2-3mths. Decided on trying the Black Beauties and WOW, simpl WOW. They sound exactly same as my D'addario EXL's do and the tension is pretty much same and they feel absolutely amazing. I love the feel and tone of these and provided they last longer than normal strings then i will be a regular user. Had to wait just over a week for delivery from US but they arrived in perfect condition and at £30 a set incl delivery they are great value for money. Test of time will see how they last over a few hot and sweaty gigs at Xmas. I do play fingerstyle and i play quite hard and sweat a lot. I have killed EXL's in 2 gigs. Do a search for short scale strings. **Q: Does the coating dampen the effects of pinch harmonics? I use harmonics a lot and don't want to lessen that ability.** A: Not at all. The coating is sorta like when aluminum is anodized. Not like other strings with actual coatings on them. I used them on my Roscoe 5 for several years and now on my Spector NS2 for the last 5 years. DR makes the best strings. The feel of these is very similar to the Sunbeams. **Q: Have you actually ever played a guitar? How can you sell such a nasty product? How can you sleep at night?** A: I play the bass, I've tried a different set of DR coated strings. They're not my thing, but other players want the benefits that coating provides them. Can’t go wrong. ### ⭐⭐ Decent enough sound through the right bass but the feeling ... *by S***T on 4 January 2018* Decent enough sound through the right bass but the feeling of the coating is a bit unpleasant on your fingers.
