I bought this because I play pool at our local senior center and I provide the chalk and one guy there is so anxious he thinks he is sharpening a pencil while applying chalk. I have seen him do this four times with different cubes of chalk before taking a shot. Needless to say this drills a hole in the chalk cube quite quickly and rather than creating a situation I decided I would buy this instead. I like it a lot and the magnet is pretty strong...actually there are two magnets. One in the cube holder and one on the part that attaches to your belt.An important thing to know is that the screws holding the belt loop part magnet in place were not securely tightened or work loose. I am not sure yet. The thing fell apart on me while playing pool and it requires a larger hex wrench than the one supplied to tighten it. And the little bar magnet on the belt loop part has to be oriented polarity wise or the two magnets will propel each other instead of attracting. Not a big deal just check before securing the screws.Also I am a bit older so I like to sit to give my legs a rest sometimes and the cube gets knocked off quite easily. I am still trying to figure the best placement (front, side or more back) to prevent this and make it convenient. I really like this for me anyway there is a learning curve for the proper placement. I have seen players with the stick and chain holder that dangles from their pocket and that is just not my style.

I was looking for a strong magnet. This does - in spades. As with any product there can be simple improvements. A shim over the locknuts helps preserve your chalk and makes a tighter fit. Also bending the belt clamp a little makes it tighter. Very satisfied.

Pros: strong magnet, solid build quality, strong chalk grip (includes a hex key to secure the chalk in the holder)Cons: no cover for chalk holder, belt clip is loose/wide so even with a thick belt it doesn't securely pinch onto itI actually lost it the first day I used it since the belt clip was so loose it fell off at some point. That said, I'm buying another one and will crimp the clip so it doesn't fall off so easily next time. It's a shame because most of these suffer from weak magnets while this one excels in that area but flubs the easy part of the design.

So my first night using it I probably knocked it off 12 times until I realized it’s best clipped on the back of your belt behind you. You reach behind and grab it. Use it and then put it back on your side. You’ll knock it off constantly on the front same

The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because take my advice, remove the Alan key and put it somewhere secure, because it will fall out, andyou will lose it!

The color, the strong magnet for keeping my chalk at and on my side as a play. No concern for if there is chalk in these houses. Love it, thank you.
