Brilliant release from Eureka
I brought this two film set after getting into Hong Kong gangster movies. Both rich and famous and tragic hero, are great films. Loved the story, characters and action sequences. Would highly recommend for Hong Kong cinema fans.

fun movie
Just watched this dvd this week..There are 2 versions on this disk:- 4:3 pan&scan english dubbed- 16:9 1.85:1 cantonese with english subsI can confirm that the english subs are very bad, just as the other reviewer mentioned.. Even though it was a bit annoying sometimes, you can follow the story/dialog with the subs..The picture quality (16:9 version) wasn't like new dvd's or something but I must disagree with the other reviewer about being as good as VHS, I think the image was decent for this release.. Ofcourse if it had been better mastered and decent subtitles it would have been a much better experience, but my guess is that this is and will be the best release for coming years..The funny thing was, there are some publishing stills on the disk with scenes that aren't in the movie (maybe in the 4:3 english cut, but certainly not in the 16:9 cantonese version)..I payed 0.98 pounds (excluding delivery to the Netherlands) for it, and I found it to be worth it's money..But don't expect big action sequences with chow yun fat as he isn't the main actor in this movie (he does have some action scenes, and he's certainly in the movie with a bigger role). But plenty enough hong kong action....

Pretty near the bottom of the barrel - but do see the sequel
This is a particularly dire early Chow Yun Fat Hong Kong gangster movie that occasionally flirts with competence without ever going all the way. It's the usual good brother/bad brother plot, but it's rarely been done as shoddily as this. Danny Lee has little to do, Andy Lau isn't on top form here and only an underused Chow Yun Fat gets by on charisma alone. The film looks like it's been shot in a hurry (the first fight in the betting shop looks as convincing as a schoolgirl pillow fight) by people who'd rather be somewhere else.No surprises, badly staged and pretty amateurish all round except for a last reel wedding shootout, its hard to believe this was a big enough local hit for a sequel, Tragic Hero. Even more surprising is that Tragic Hero is actually GOOD, focusing on Chow Yun Fat's fall from power as he is abandoned and betrayed - that one has style, flair and a bit of weight to it, as well as much better action scenes. But Rich and Famous is just a waste of your time.
