This respirator is very versatile in terms of mobility, comfort, and almost all-purpose use. I first got this because my Harbor Freight version which costs about 40% cheaper than this was doing just fine until one day, I had to go and replace those cartridges, that's when I realized that the price will equate to getting something like this. The Harbor Freight version provides basic protection and odor/vapor control, but the cartridge does clog up quickly. This is where the GSHUBB respirator shines. This respirator is meant for some serious doomsday usage, but in still-peace times, I'm doing a lot of garage-based ceramic coating work. The immediate feature I noticed is how soft and pliable the mask's framing material is made of. It's very easy for my face to seal with this respirator. Then as I breath in and out of this respirator cartridge, I can definitely feel a very breeze air flow. The cartridge is quite large, that means it's built for longer use. And rightfully so, I was able to use these for months without feeling like it's needing to replace a cartridge. Conventionally on a Harbor Freight respirator, I'm doing a new cartridge every other month. I know it's time because fogging comes quickly if the cartridge is used up. But this unit lasts very long, it's been 3 months now and I use it every week without having to worry about the cartridge replacement, yet. It's a lot breezier than the harbor freight non-woven medium. And the odor control is superb. Ceramic coating is heavy on epoxy and its substrate evaporative material, and this thing is a real workhorse. I did not detect any of that strong odor while donning this respirator. Overall, this is a very good respirator mask. If you do your accounting correctly, despite the higher startup cost, just because it outlasts other cheaper versions, that makes this respirator a top pick for being an economical item to consider. For me, it does what I need, and God forbid, I hope to never have to use it for a nuclear or real chemical attack scenario. Very pleased with this unit. If you're looking for the basics and one that can really work well and change less cartridge, this can be your pick.

Decent gas mask, but it would’ve been a nice to have one that wasn’t outdated and the filter expired in 2022. How did I get one that old?

This is probably one of the coolest things I have ordered on a whim that I was 100% excited for and VERY impatiently awaiting its arrival. It did arrive quick, less than a day so that was awesome. It came well packaged and in perfect condition. The mask itself is not exactly as heavy duty as the ones I have used in the military, but I do feel that it is very effective. It was easy to put on and adjust to various sized people. I was able to achieve a solid seal on myself as well as others who tried it on. It isn’t something that is comfortable to wear (none are) but it was tolerable for its purpose. You are able to get effective airflow through the filter without feeling claustrophobic, but if you are someone who is claustrophobic then this probably isn’t something you would enjoy wearing. You can wear a helmet or other head gear while wearing this without it being uncomfortable or bulky. It is definitely a lightweight mask which is very nice, your face wont feel weighed down. Overall, this is a fantastic gas mask that is very much on par with capabilities and function just in a lightweight option. Would definitely recommend.

I need to find a way to test how well it filters with the included cartridge, with the mask by itself it gets a good seal on my face. I typically wear a large mask when they are issued. What is a potential deal breaker for me is the clips that attach the straps to the mask. they are held on by little notches on the mask and as I found out donning it using the typical military method of the straps fully extended over the front of the mask then pushing the mask to your face and pulling the straps down over your head, those clips can fall off. I ended up searching my floor for the clips that attach the bottom two straps fortunately I was able to find them. Also this does not shut off air without a filter installed so if you need to change filters you will need to hold your breath the whole time. Overall, I would say it is decent if you do not need to don it quickly or change filters in a contaminated area.
