High quality, app is nice, and works with Home Assistant when you use a ESP32 running a bluetooth gateway to connect. No problems there. HOWEVER. The unit is rated for 12/24 and 48 volt batteries and solar panels. Ok, not a problem. However at 48 volts you CANNOT put loads on the output safely. The instructions say in the fine print to not exceed 1 amp draws on the load at 48 and there is NO overcurrent to prevent this. What happened to mine was I had a 5 amp load that worked at first but after 2 days the unit blew its fuse. Went out to the shed, checked it, replaced the fuse with a 25 amp rated fuss, reconnected, and watched a small fireball shoot out as the fuse blew again. Internally the FETs are shorted. And this is another problem; the internal fuse on this unit is 25 amps but is an automoblie rated fuse. Which should not be used at above 30 volts. And this can do 48 volts. Fortunately my load center is protected by a 35 amp fuse rated for 600 volts DC. That didn't blow because the 25a one did, but if an arc formed that would be the only thing keeping the unit from becoming a bad problem. Moral: Always properly fuse your batteries to NEC standards. Never count on a little automobile fuse. And in this case, don't use the load output if you're running 48 volts. Victron, I'm not returning it because it was my fault, but this is kind of a design.... thing to think about. Feel free to drop me a line. And to allow for proper temperature sensing if the unit has only a built in sensor the controller should be is the same area as the batteries. **Q: Does this unit alternate voltage based on battery temperature?** A: The charger will compensate for temperature based on it's internal sensor, essentially gauging the local environment's temperature. An option Smart Battery Sense can be attached to the battery for true battery temperature. Those are new and in short supply, but should be fully available by the end of June, 2018. **Q: what is the difference between smart solar and blue solar?** A: The single difference between them is that the SmartSolar MPPTs have Bluetooth built-in so that you can monitor and configure them through the VictronConnect smartphone app. The BlueSolar MPPTs do *not* have the Bluetooth built-in; you can use a VE.Direct to Bluetooth Dongle to achieve the same functionality, but the cost of a SmartSolar ends up a little less (typically) than a BlueSolar MPPT +a VE.Direct to Bluetooth Dongle, so it usually makes more sense to order the SmartSolar. If you're not planning on monitoring the MPPT or changing any of the settings, however, a BlueSolar will be just fine, as the actual circuitry is virtually identical. The 48V is to differentiate it from the 12V/24V only mppt. This Victron charges up my (2.1 Kwh NMC) battery super Fast! Using 800W of ECOFLOW PV, it keeps my battery exactly (50.15v) where I set it. Modern Victron MPPT technology exactly is what I need to is replace my old PWM chargers. It runs cool (about 90F, no fan required) and the price is amazing compared to my old PWM brand.
