It worked, then it didn't work, but they replaced it with no hassles, and it's working again.
Bought my first EV, a BMW i4, last August, and purchased this charger at the same time. The directly wired ones get higher amperage and thus quicker charges, so that's what I got. I needed an electrician to install a 220 circuit in my garage and so I had him hook up the charger, too. I thought I was going to need a new electrical panel, but they used "half-height' breakers and everything fit in the existing panel (yay for my electrician!). After that, the charger was easy to set up and easy to use. The app is straightforward and keeps track of the times when the local utility company has differential rates. When the car needs charged, I plug it in and go to bed. The charger wakes up at 11PM and *always* finishes in the lower-rate window. I generally start charging when the car's battery is between 20% and 30% and only charge to 80%, so I also don't need to run the charger at full amperage. It's my understanding that it's harder on both the car and the charger to run at higher amps, and, in fact, the charging cable did get hot the one time I ran it at 40 Amps. I've got a 50 Amp circuit, and i've never run it at the level. It all worked great until late February of 2025, about five months after I bought the charger. Suddenly, it would no longer connect to the internet or to my app. I ran through the trouble-shooting steps, including power-cycling the charger via the circuit breaker in the panel. No go. I called the customer care number, stepped through the trouble-shooting steps another time with them (sigh). Still no go. They tried one more time to reboot it remotely, and that didn't work either. They then escalated the case to one level up. I had to provide proof-of-purchase with a dated invoice (thank you, Amazon, for making that easy), and within a couple of days they shipped a new charger to me. It's now about ten days after that, and it's re-installed in my garage. The only thing I have left to do is take the old charger to Fedex to return to them. Oh, and pay the electrician $150 to install the new charger. On a positive note, the defective charger still charged my car--I just couldn't control it with the app. The i4, however, lets you set a charging window, so you can control the time and amount of the charge via the car and don't really need the app. Thus, while I was waiting for a new charger, I was still able to charge my vehicle. (again, yay) But, now I've got the replacement charger installed and all is once again good in the garage's charging world. I have to say that Chargepoint made this as easy as possible to do the exchange, and were prompt in getting the charger to me. Having watched the electrician do the re-install, I'm pretty confident I could have done it myself and saved the $150. On the other hand, I can't use a screwdriver without cutting myself, so that and my peace of mind made it worthwhile to hire an electrician to do the install. Overall, I'm still happy with my purchase. Of course, if THIS one fails, too, that will change. Perusing reviews, however, these appear to be reliable. Keeping my fingers crossed...

Chargepoint app set up was easy after electrician installed.
Works as it should, easy install, no issues for electrician, name brand seems to be worth it. I wanted a charger without LED display screen on charger, which likely will fail someday, the housing is heavy duty plastic and seems sufficient (better if it were metal), less to break and fail for this simple yet robust product. Obviously L2 charger is much faster. Wifi set up was seamless, just opened the charge point app and went through set up steps, connected to my home wifi, verified a 50 AMP dedicated breaker, and set charger to 32 AMPS because that is my EV max charging ability. Only have to plug in once or twice a week now! App does track monthly electricity used in charge point app.

Works great. Pretty simple install.
I drive a 2023 Kia EV6 GT-Line. I bought this about a year ago, more on a whim than a necessity. Level one charging has been perfectly adequate for my general needs. This is really a convenience I don't require, but still wanted. A friend of mine drives a VW ID.4 and uses this same charger, and I guess I had some charger envy. I may have also been a little bit intoxicated when I hit "pay." Anyway, a neighbor who is a licensed contractor was going to install for me. After about 8 months of waiting on him to have time, I eventually did some Harry-Homeowner style education (I've moved 240v, but never installed new) and decided to wire this myself, with the help of my brother who isn't an electrician but is a union tradesman with electrical experience. We wired it on a 50a breaker, using 8 gauge THHN copper wire, and PVC conduit from the panel. It's about a 20 foot journey, and we had to work in a weird bend where the siding on the house meets some brickwork. The hardest part was pulling the wire, as it got hung up a bit on aforementioned bend. But once we got past that, it was straightforward. Two live wires and a ground. No polarity, no neutral. Tough to mess up. The way they have all the wires line up with each other inside the unit is a little bit weird-- green, red, and black enter from the power source in a different sequence than they exit to the charging cable-- but just pay attention to the manual. Also, as long as you have the ground in the right place, I don't think it should matter about red and black (or whatever you're using for your two live wires coming off the panel). But I hope your electrical education is more vast than just reading this review and hoping I'm right. Getting the unit to shake hands with the house power and the WiFi was easy, using ChargePoint's app. (You don't really need to use the professional installer app to get it to work, just the regular consumer one.) Once I plugged into the car, it's pulling at a pretty consistent 9.4kw. Almost exactly the estimated output for a 40a charge on a 50a breaker. I've been charging the car on a 110v household current for almost 2 years, and a 20-80% charge has taken about 36-40 hours. Now the same charge takes less than 6 hours. It seems it would be ever so slightly faster if I used a 70a breaker and 6 gauge wire, but I do all my charging overnight, and the difference in charge times is negligible enough that I can't justify the extra expense. I'd be asleep for those extra few minutes anyway. Also, to the naked eye, the wires to the plug don't appear to be larger than the 8 gauge I ran from the panel. So maybe that doesn't actually make a difference, and it's all in the breaker. I'll let actual electricians argue about that. Pretty happy with it. The cord is pliable enough, even in 30-40 degree Utah winter temperatures that it doesn't appear to be an issue. Though I did install inside the (unheated) garage. I can't say whether outside might present a bigger issue. I don't think it would. Also, with newer EVs all going with the Tesla style form factor, I was glad to see that when I buy something newer, I can replace the cable on this for around $200, instead of buying a whole new unit. Overall, it's sort of pricey, compared to some of the alternatives, but worth it to me for a trusted name in EV charging. No complaints.

Would be a great product if not for the frustrating design flaw
I would love to give the product 5 stars, but unfortunately, due to what appears to be a design flaw along with poor customer service I will only give it 2 stars. When this charger works, it's a great product. I've experienced no issues charging our car and I appreciate the flexibility of being able to adjust the charge current to time the charging to finish just prior to leaving on a long journey. The ability to monitor and track charging costs is also very helpful. I've not used the scheduling functionality yet. Now for the downside - after approximately 8 months from installing the unit the WiFi connection failed. No matter how much troubleshooting I attempted I could not get the unit to reconnect to (or even recognize) the WiFi. After several calls to ChargePoint customer service (and appeasing them by following their non-sensical troubleshooting instructions) they agreed to send a replacement unit. The replacement arrived within a week or so. I noticed it was a previously returned unit (as it had scratches where it had previously been installed) and after installation the unit was dead on arrival and would not turn on. I contacted customer support again (again appeasing them by following their redundant troubleshooting steps) and they agreed that I should return the replacement and they would send another. I then reinstalled my original unit albeit without WiFi, so I could charge my car. Unfortunately, they closed the support ticket and reopened a new one. These tickets were not connected and so it was frustrating dealing with customer support having to explain the issues I was experiencing. After returning their unit to them, I was still hassled by emails for several weeks stating I needed to return the unit. Eventually, I had to explain to them that FedEx had delivered the unit and provided them the date of delivery and who had signed to accept the unit. This eventually stopped the emails. After waiting approximately 5 weeks and contacting customer support several times, they eventually sent me another replacement unit. After installation, this unit appeared to work fine. It started up without issues and connected to WiFi. I returned the original unit I purchased to them. Unfortunately, after several months now I still get hassled via email asking for me to return this unit. This is even after providing them the tracking information showing it had been delivered and who had signed for it. The replacement unit worked for approximately 6 weeks before disconnecting from WiFi as the original unit did. Frustrated with the experience of dealing with ChargePoint customer service, I resigned my self to using the Charger as a dumb charger (only being able to charge and not being able to monitor or control it over WiFi). However, after researching the issue on the internet forums it appears this is a very common issue with this product. I eventually found someone stating that by disconnecting the power for several days their unit would work again and reconnect to their WiFi. I decided to give this a try and viola! It worked again. There appears to be an obvious design flaw with this product - be it hardware or software, I am not sure. However, it appears that a simple reboot does not fix this issues with WiFi, but discharging the unit over an extended period of time does (sometimes). Currently my unit has dropped off WiFi and I cannot get it to reconnect. Therefore all features that require Wi-Fi (setting a charging schedule, changing charging amperage, notifications, etc.) do not work. Back to just being a dumb charger! It has been a frustrating experience working with this unit and with ChargePoint customer support. Therefore, I cannot recommend this product in favor of other EV charger on the market.

Outstanding EV charger
I had researched home EV chargers for several months prior to buying an EV, and decided on the ChargePoint HomeFlex charger, based on professional and user reviews. I was not disappointed. This Level 2 charger is well-built and works perfectly. I highly recommend it. The trickiest part was the timing. I ordered the charger just after making the EV purchase, and also hired a licensed master electrician to install it (highly recommended). Until it was installed, I could only use public chargers, the closest of which is 50 miles away, or the emergency 120V adapter that came with my vehicle (which takes forever like a trickle charge) so it limited the use of my new car for a while. The electrician discovered we needed an upgrade in our electrical service, put in a second circuit breaker box, and laid new wiring to accommodate the charger. Of course, the carport is on the opposite end of the house from the original circuit breaker, which was overloaded. It ended up costing more than I anticipated, but it was worth it to have a competent electrician thoroughly check the loads and make sure the electrical system is safe. The electrician ran into some confusion in the written instructions and contacted the ChargePoint tech support, but it was eventually straightened out, and it installed without further problems and connected to the ChargePoint app on my phone. The ring around the charger's holster for the cord plug glows green constantly to show it is ready to charge. It has a 25' cord, and when it's connected and charging, the base unit pulses blue. The ChargePoint app is easy to use when charging, and shows how much electricity you're using and how much it costs from your utility company. So far it has cost under $5 for an 80% charge (recommended by the vehicle manufacturer), which brings my car to over 300 miles of usable travel. You can use the same app for ChargePoint public charger locations, which cost more than doing it at home, but it's still been under $10 for a charge--a lot less than filling up a gas tank. Charge time for the home Level 2 charger takes about 5-6 hours total for a full charge; at the public Level 3 charger, about 30-50 minutes (Level 3 chargers vary in power). There are three different options for purchasing this charger: hard-wired, or two different 240V plug options. I opted for the hard-wired one. If there's already a plug near where you're using it, you can go that way, but hard-wired worked great for me and was easier and less expensive for the electrician. The hard-wired version also provides slightly more current to the EV than the plug options. I would recommend meeting with your electrician before deciding on which version to buy. Overall, I am delighted with the ChargePoint HomeFlex charger. It's built sturdily, works seamlessly and keeps me on the road. I highly recommend it.

Easy EV Charger
This is a great EV charger for level 2 home charging with the CCS plug. As of 2025, new cars will start using the NACS plug (Tesla). Most cars come with adapters to use either plug. This charger works flawlessly with either (NACS compatibility with your own adapter). The hardwired charger is the safest option, as long as you have at least a 6AWG wire connecting to a 60AMP breaker in your electrical panel. This lets you safely select 48AMPs of power, which works out to about 11kWh. This provides the best home charging experience in my opinion. Initial setup is easy in fast. However, wifi is required to complete installation. The charger only supports 2G wifi; it will see 5G wifi and connect to it, but give a cryptic error message and not finish setup. Plugging in is easy and the charge cable is long to reach inside or outside most garages. The cable is sturdy, though be careful not to damage it or drag it across the ground. The app integration works well, although it does not support multiple users in the home. Each person would have to install the app under one account (as of 2025). There are plenty of options to check charging status, and even stop charging remotely. We have the charger set up to not charge during peak hours, which our utility company charges triple the price. This schedule is easily set up in the app. Occasionally, the power ring of the charger will turn white. This means it’s not connected to wifi, or it’s not connected to the ChargePoint cloud service. When this happens, the charger will charge more slowly. I don’t like the idea that the charger requires a cloud connection to charge at full speed. Also, there’s no physical reboot button on the unit. Sometimes the white ring can be solved by turning the unit off and on. This requires you to go to the electrical panel and flip off the breaker for 1 minute. All-in-all, it’s a good and reliable charger, and some power companies offer rebates.

Great product - but installation method and instructions are flawed
Vehicle: Mini Cooper SE PURCHASE The salesman at the dealership told us the mini comes with a level 1 charger, so I elected to buy this ChargePoint level 2 charger to upgrade our charging capabilities and have it ready by the time we drove the car home. The salesman was wrong, the car comes with a level 2 charger and a 115v adapter plug so you can use regular house current until you upgrade to a 230v outlet. Result, 500 bucks blown unnecessarily on the ChargePoint and shame on me for not doing more research myself. INSTALLATION I installed the ChargePoint myself using the hardwired option and the existing 230v outlet I have in the garage. ChargePoint uses two apps for the installation. The ChargePoint Installation app and the ChargePoint user app. The instructions do not clearly explain this nor when its time to transition from the installation app to the user app. This caused problems when I scanned a QR code with the wrong app! I had to call customer service for assistance and although they were friendly and tried to help, the call station was obviously outsourced, and the agent did not have the requisite training or language skills to be effective. I was able to gather enough that it was time for me to delete the installation app and switch to the user app for the next step. PERFORMANCE I do like the ChargePoint design, appearance and user interface. It all works well and the WiFi connectivity and synched charging programs with my power company are nice. SAVINGS Look for money back programs from your power company and vehicle manufacturer and enroll. For example, Xcel energy gives us $50/year for charging off peak (Optimize Your Charge program) and BMW's ChargeForward program pays us for reducing carbon emissions by charging off peak. The problem I am having now is Xcel energy is controlling my charging schedule through ChargePoint and BMW is controlling my car's built-in charging system through the ChargeForward program, resulting in frequent conflicts. One is OFF when the other is ON, causing periods of no charging and we sometimes don't have a full battery when it's time to leave in the morning. SUMMARY The ChargePoint is a great EV charging system as stated by numerous professional and consumer product reviews. The installation guidance is not well orchestrated and cumbersome. It's an easy installation if you know basic house wiring but ChargePoint obfuscates it with the installation app which shouldn't be necessary. And I didn't need to buy it because the car came with a level 2 charger and I could have enrolled in the power company's and manufacturer's money back charging programs without it. And good luck synchronizing your various charging incentives together so you have a full charge when it's time to leave in the morning! Update: I was able to synchronize Xcel energy’s “Optimize Your Charge (OYC)” and BMW’s ChargeForward program such that I get all the savings and have a full charge in the morning. Also, I could NOT have enrolled in the “Optimize Your Charge (OYC)” program with the charger that was included with the car. The program is only compatible with 2 specific chargers, (ChargePoint & Juice Box).

Fast, Reliable, and Worth Every Penny!
We couldn’t be happier with this charger! The ChargePoint HomeFlex is incredibly fast and has made charging our EV so convenient. We love the sleek design and the fact that it’s hardwired for a clean, professional look. The app is super user friendly and lets my husband schedule charging, track energy usage, and get notifications right from my phone. It feels solid and well made, and the charging cable is a great length. Installation was straightforward for our electrician, and everything worked perfectly from day one. If you’re looking for a reliable Level 2 charger that performs flawlessly, this is the one!
