I did notice an odor from the stand, but the dumbbells just smell like dumbbells. No oily substance either. I did go ahead and wash everything with Dawn and water beforehand. Used white towels to wash and dry them, and there was no dirt or oil on the towels. Very pleased with the purchase and price I got them for.

Ordered the 150 lb. dumbbell set with tinted handles. It's great! Arrived early, easy setup, and although people have complained about a smell, I do not notice one. I did notice an odor from the stand, but the dumbbells just smell like dumbbells. No oily substance either. I did go ahead and wash everything with Dawn and water beforehand. Used white towels to wash and dry them, and there was no dirt or oil on the towels. Very pleased with the purchase and price I got them for.
