A: I was wondering the same thing and it is an important question. There are sugar free antacids. The comment made by "Me and my boy" is truly one of the dumbest thing I have ever read on Amazon. A: It helps reduce stomach acid and resulting heartburn.  I don't think it stops the production of acid but helps neutralize acid already produced.  It works very quickly.
