Exide Edge FP-AGML5/49 Flat Plate AGM Sealed Automotive Battery
The Exide Edge FP-AGML5/49 Flat Plate AGM Sealed Automotive Battery is a BMW owner's solution to ultimate power efficiency and performance as well as significant cost savings alternative to dealer furnished batteries. I paid close to $400.00 the last time I had a battery installed in my local BMW dealership. Three weeks later, that battery went dead and when I contacted the dealer, they came up with all sort of reasons why the brand new $400 battery died so early. When I called about two months ago to check on a replacement battery again from two local dealers they quoted me $329.00 for the battery plus two hours labor for installation. They came up with all these theories about labor charge for "battery registration" etc. for my 2001 BMW M5, something that happen to be totally false. So, I hit the road running on google, amazon, sears, Walmart, AutoZone, pepboys, etc. After about two months of thorough research, I went to Exide to find an AGM battery that would fit my 2001 M5. I chose Exide because my original M5 battery with BMW label was manufactured by Exide. I ordered it from Amazon on Dec-14, 2013 but it did not ship until Jan-2, 2014. I took delivery on Jan-6, 2014 and immediately installed it, following my M5 Owner's Manual to the letter...no mention of battery registration by the way. Only reprogramming I had to perform on the car after installation was time and date. All other vehicle functions worked as previously...even the homelink system did not require reprogramming. It is only six days since the installation but I can say that performance is at 100 percent. I drove it to work on the coldest day we've had this winter with temperatures at 15 degrees and wind chill at 2 degrees. I left it in the weather all day but it started fast with no hesitation at all. I will be back here to give my reviews after a year of use but at $195 and 4-year replacement warranty, I have peace of mind. I strongly recommend Exide Edge FP-AGML5/49 Flat Plate AGM Sealed Automotive Battery to anyone looking to install this high tech AGM battery in his or her car. The warranty is simply one of the best in industry. Plus you get a battery that really performs great!***UPDATE ONE YEAR LATER: 1/19/15*** -- After a full year of use, the Exide Edge FP-AGML5/49 Flat Plate AGM battery has held up very well. It cranks great and has performed well through one of the coldest winters on record in my area, and a very hot summer season. I stand by my original review with 5-stars! Excellent Battery at a bargain price, period!!! Buy it if this fits your vehicle, and you will not regret it.***UPDATE TWO YEARS LATER: 1/29/16*** Two years running with the Exide Edge FP-AGML5/49 Flat Plate AGM battery, and I can definitely report that battery is going strong. Great investment! 2001 BMW M5 performs great with this battery. I stand by my 5-star rating, and strongly recommend this battery...no "battery registration" required!!!***UPDATE THREE YEARS LATER: 6/9/2017*** Three years running with the Exide Edge FP-AGML5/49 Flat Plate AGM battery, and I am still loving it. 2001 BMW M5 is performing extremely well after my move to the DFW area. My 5-star rating stands, and I positively recommend this battery...no "battery registration" required for 2001 M5!!! Saving Money, Starting and Driving even Faster in Texas!***UPDATE FOUR AND ONE-HALF YEARS LATER: 10/10/2018*** Four and one-half years running with the Exide Edge FP-AGML5/49 Flat Plate AGM battery. My 5-star rating stands, and I positively recommend this battery...no battery registration; required for the 2001 M5!!! Saving Money, Starting and Driving even Faster in Georgia!***UPDATE FIVE YEARS LATER: 02/09/2019***My Exide Edge FP-AGML5/49 Flat Plate AGM battery may have finally died today! I had to rely on a support battery for starting my M5 today. It is not clear whether I can recharge it at this time after 5 years. I will test it later and update this review. It showed no sign at all since I was able to recharge it to 100 percent a month ago.

Fits with trivial caveats on BMW 325i
A nice drop-in replacement on a 2004 BMW 325i. I did need to move the vent tube access from one side to the other (trivial, it's designed to be easy... no tools needed) and the 'foot' from the cross-bar that anchors the battery in place needed to be removed to accommodate the height (simple screw driver, again obvious.) This is a big battery. Ask me in 6+ years for a review update. So far it is brilliant and fits securely. Oh, and free 2-day shipping for Prime members? OMG, Thank You Amazon!

Amazon Prime - Exide :(
BUYER BEWARE! While I did LOVE the fact that the battery was an exact fit for my 2003 M5, and was delivered quickly from Amazon. After less than a year of use, the battery will not hold a full charge. When I put my trickle charger on the battery, it became VERY HOT. Checked charger, output was consistent and just to be sure, I put it on a known good battery, and it was fine. I checked the battery and Voltage is low, like a dead cell. All of this would be fine, as being less than a year of use, it should be covered under warranty BUT there is NO return information, or how to collect on this warranty. Purchased from Amazon, and NO protection for the first year? Sad days.

You can avoid that by connecting Jumper battery to Jump terminal on engine compartment (battery is in trunk but there is jump te
I chose Exide because BMW's original battery was (is) Exide.Battery arrived extremely well protected package. not air bubble or peanuts but firm honey cone cardboard (pic attached).Someone maybe wonder why dealer charge $200 or more labor for just 10 minutes work who buy this for BMW (Mini, Bentley and maybe MBZ too).Because BMW (and other European manufactures) car's equipped with IBS (Inteligent Battery Sensor) on battery terminal (pic attached)It monitor condition of Battery even it's ignition off and sleeping.and it send data to DCM and CAS (on board module), control amount of battery charging and vehicle electrical system consumption. So, vehicle needs to know if battery is new or 5 years old, how much capacity, AGM or conventional flood type. You have to re-register to CAS module even If replaced by same type same capacity battery. It can't be done by regular OBD error code reader (no matter if it's $30 equipment or $1000 equipment, regular OBD reader can't communicate with BMW control module)Resetting Clock, lost Bluetooth communication and/or lost address book are because battery was disconnected for few minutes, nothing related to re-register process. It could be happen to any vehicle made by any auto-manufactures.You can avoid that by connecting Jumper battery to Jump terminal on engine compartment (battery is in trunk but there is jump terminal in engine compartment)Connecting trickle charger or smart charger to jumper terminal don't work.Because trickle charger/smart charger are monitoring battery voltage. (Send power, then monitor battery voltage, send power trickle)when there is no voltage back from connection, trickle charger stop send power (stop charging)So, once you disconnect battery, trickle charger stop sending power.Be careful red wires are still hot and car is still wake when you change battery by connecting second battery (jumper battery). When you change BMW battery, ask dealer or local shop to battery register (update data on module).Otherwise, your BMW act as if it has 5 years old battery. My other car's Diehard battery died in less than 3 years. My BMW's Original Exide lasted more than 5 years.

good fit but not a great starter
They don't seem to last. cranking amps don't hold in my cayenne and replacing the battery is kind of a pain.
