Don't Even Consider Another Pen - Best Customer Service EVER!!!
I bought this pen as a Christmas gift for my daughter. The pen worked for a while but then stopped working. I took this opportunity to teach my daughter how to handle customer service issues herself. So my 12yr old, contacted the company's customer service department and informed them she was 12yr old. First off, the level of professionalism of this group was amazing, even speaking to a young person. I, of course, closely monitored what transpired through my email account. The company sent a replacement pen. No questions asked, only asked to return the previous equipment. After receiving the replacement, it instantly failed. After this occurrence, I investigated the pen myself, and could smell a burning smell inside the pen. This led me to believe that the motor had burned up, and to do so right out of the box it had to be the power supply. After emailing customer service about this, they sent a new pen and new power supply immediately, no questions asked. We then sent them back the old equipment and the old power supply for them to test. It was in fact a faulty power supply that caused the issues. The company representative even followed up with me to let me know what they found after testing. The company reps were actually reaching out to us to make sure things were correct, and that we were happy with the product. There were a few times during the process that we actually forgot and the reps reminded us that they wanted to help us. Superb customer service, never dealt with better people.

Works great, when it works
I was stumped on what to get my 11 year old for Christmas. After looking at 3D printers and wood laser engravers, I went with this pen, since it was the least expensive and I wasn't sure if he'd like it. Well, he LOVES it. He was able to pick it up and start using it right away. It did take a bit of trial and error for him to figure out how to control it, but he's been able to make some pretty cool things so far. The problem is that these things break. We've been able to clear any jams/clogs relatively easily, but the first one completely stopped working within a month. Tech support was AMAZING. They responded quickly, gave us some things to try, and ultimately sent out a replacement, which arrived within a few days. Upon getting the old unit back they gave us an update and told us the heating element stopped working, it was a manufacturing defect, nothing we could do to prevent it. The replacement item is also having problems now. I've done some adjustments per the manufacturer, and he's still having problems. This one might have to go back as well. These are really cool when they work, they just aren't made well. And from what I've seen, most 3D pens are the same. Next time I'll spend extra and get something that'll last longer and be a little less frustrating.

Should have bought the alternative
It's an ok pen, but I don't like how it retracts every time you stop because it adds a good 15sec every time you do, which makes a slow process of sculpting with it even slower. The filament it comes with is about $0.50 worth off a roll. And it didn't come with a clearing tool that is in the manual. There is another that is just a few bucks more that I realized is what most people who sculpt with a 3D pen use. I should have went with that.

very fiddly to get anything working. not worth it
The plastic feeder can't seem to get purchase even on the plastic that ships with it, much less any sort of PLA that is recommended for it. You have to manually feed the plastic in the back with the push rod and then it might start spewing out hot plastic, or it might not. The plastic that does come out of the end is super tiny, much smaller than what is pictured. They show people printing and holding in the air, but you cannot do that as the small plastic will bow and bend, so anything you want to make standing up will not look right. You can try to make something laying down, but it sticks to paper, and it won't come out if you use a silicon pad, because it doesn't adhere. It won't feed out unless you use both hands, one to hold the pen, and another to push the plastic. If you are done with your creation of ugly spaghetti then you can turn off the thing and let the plastic solidify in the end of the nozzle, requiring you to pull off the nozzle and fiddle with it to get the cold plastic back out. Overall, I'd rate this a 'do not buy' as it will only cause frustration.

Great fun for both kids and adults
I bought this for my daughter and now we are both enjoying it. It is easy to use and so far we have no problem with it. I like the metal nozzle tip as it is sturdy and I think is easier to work with and clean. There are descent number of seller of filaments on Amazon that fit this model, although definitely not as many as other brands. But we are happy with what we can buy already. If I don’t understand wrong, there are different shaped nozzle tip replacements we can buy and change for this pen.

Over school break I bought my 7 year old: this pen, an expensive boomerang, a drone with live video broadcast, a bunch of books, a Lego set, and a couple other things about equal prices. He played with this twice as much as the rest combined, and it's a very creative toy. I would TOTALLY RECOMMEND the pen to anyone. Now, it's a bit frustrating to use, of course. The melted plastic won't do exactly what you want, and there's a little smell and a little chance of burning your fingers a bit. But, these aren't bad problems. It's a nice challenge to figure out how to use the melted plastic. It's a new artistic medium, really! Even the ABS doesn't smell much, and the PLA almost not at all. We keep a little bowl with a big ice cube in it, and when we get a little burn, just getting ice within 1 second keeps it from actually causing an injury. However the company's support is some of the worst I've dealt with. You must buy more plastic for this pen to print, and their distribution is horrible outside America, it seems. Their prices in Japan are 3x the prices in the US for the exact same thing. They make insulting excuses as to why. ("Our distribution for Asia is in Hong Kong so unfortunately it's impossible to sell cheaply in Japan!" Well gosh, why not have a distribution center in Japan? It wouldn't be difficult!!!) Further, even in the US, you have to buy the plastic in color assortments you may not want. They won't let you buy just the colors you're actually going to use. On balance I would recommend this to anyone in the US, but would not recommend to anyone outside the US.

Great pen, it’s our first so we have nothing to compare it to. My 12yo loves it though and it’s simple for her to use and trouble shoot. Be sure to get 3mm filaments though. I purchased the 1.75mm ones that were advertised with it and they are too small and cause the pen to jam up.

My oldest granddaughter had one but couldn't find it so she was happy to have another pen, thanks.

Not charging and not working + the tip got very hot when it was connected to the charger, and it heated my daughter’s fingertip as well!
