Weight is comparable to a metal one. Perfect training weapon. **Q: Can you unscrew the blade from the handle? I see that it has screws so i was wondering if it could be separated** A: Considering the mold lines run uninterrupted the entire length of the "blade", up onto the "guard" and over onto the "handle", it appears the company decided to include realistic looking "screws" in the sides of the "checkered" handle, but it's a solid piece of plastic. **Q: What is the blade made of?** A: It's all polypropylene. Tough and approximates a live blades weight. **Q: How tough is this?** A: It's the same Polypropylene as Cold Steel's line of practice swords, so it's a hard black rubber substance. I've only just bought this one, and it's essentially a more visually appealing version of the Cold Steel line of Katana trainers. In that same vein, you can Youtube the Cold Steel trainer video's to watch them break things with them. I've been slamming a few of them into tree's in my back yard for a good few years, and I've only broken 2 of the 10 I've got. They're tough but not unbreakable...really tough. Like, slam it against a tree for a year and you might break a small part of it off. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ great sword *by on Reviewed in the United States November 7, 2024* The Honshu Polypropylene Bokken Training Sword is a solid choice for martial artists and practitioners seeking a durable, affordable training sword that offers safety without sacrificing quality. Crafted from heavy-duty polypropylene, this bokken is built to withstand rigorous training sessions, making it an ideal tool for practicing forms, drills, and light sparring. One of the main benefits of the Honshu Bokken is its exceptional durability. Unlike traditional wooden bokkens, this polypropylene model is resistant to cracking, chipping, and splintering, even under heavy use. This longevity makes it a practical investment for long-term training, especially for those practicing in environments where traditional wood might wear out quickly. The bokken’s weight and balance are also well thought out. The Honshu model has a realistic weight, closely mimicking the heft of a real katana, which is essential for developing proper technique. It’s heavier than some other polypropylene training swords, which can be a bonus for those looking to build strength and refine control, though beginners may find it slightly demanding for extended practice. In terms of handling, the bokken’s grip is comfortable, with a subtly textured surface that helps prevent slipping during practice. The design is sleek and functional, maintaining the traditional look of a katana while offering modern benefits like improved durability. The tsuba (handguard) is removable, allowing users to customize the sword to their preference, which is a nice touch for those who like a streamlined training weapon.Safety is, of course, one of the major advantages of the Honshu Polypropylene Bokken. The material is firm yet has a slight flexibility to absorb impact, reducing the risk of injury when practicing with partners. However, because it is a heavier bokken, caution should be exercised during contact drills, as its weight could still cause discomfort or bruising in full-contact scenarios. One minor drawback is that it can be slightly too thick or “blocky” for those accustomed to the thinner profiles of wooden bokkens. This can make certain techniques feel less precise, but this is a minor concern for most practitioners.Overall, the Honshu Polypropylene Bokken Training Sword is a durable, well-balanced training tool that offers both safety and a realistic feel. It’s an excellent choice for martial artists looking for a reliable bokken that can withstand rigorous use, and it’s especially suited to intermediate and advanced practitioners who want a weighty, long-lasting option for their training sessions. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ These are awesome!! *by on Reviewed in the United States October 23, 2024* Really well built, good weight and balance. Solid one piece construction, I can't imagine being able to break these. NOT A TOY, don't buy this to play, these are for training and can really hurt someone if you don't have proper protective gear on. Could be used as a costume item. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good quality *by on Reviewed in the United States September 25, 2026* A really well made high quality sword.
