Great food -can be soaked before feeding to avoid bloating fancies

I have kept and bred fancy goldfish for years and there is no substitute for hikari floating pellets. The food is clean and high quality. Importantly, you can soak it before feeding, to avoid the bloat that is caused by feeding most dry food to susceptible goldfish and causes them to be unable to regulate their position in the water - floating to the surface and fighting their way back down, due to eating dry food. Hikari, soaked, keeps its shape, does not flake or dissolve, and continues to float. The fish can take a piece of soaked food as easily as a dry one -except the soaked one will be twice the size. There are some fish with air bladder problems that will not be helped by soaked food, if it's not caused by digestion. But many that struggle with water position issues after eating will. The food has a slightly fishy smell, but it goes away when eaten.

Really helped with my orandas wen!

My oranda goldfish love this food! It also has helped to grow their wen! Their wen is huge now since feeding them this food!

Only thing we give our fish

We have a large tank with koi and fancy goldfish. They have done very well on this food.

Great Nutritious food for my goldfish

I’ve had a goldfish tank through the years and this food is always a fish favorite. My goldfish coloring is exquisite. And , it seems to be a lot cleaner for the tank than flakes

Probably better than most fish food.

I have three generic goldfish in a 25 gallon tank - it may actually only be a 20 gallon tank but it holds 25 gallons with plenty of room to spare. I've fed these fish multiple types of foods from frozen shrimp to flakes to sinking pellets. I only feed them a pinch of these pellets a day and I suppose it is enough (I hate that there is no set amount to feed fish) because there is never a "feeding frenzy" like I've experienced with other foods. They just come up and casually take a pellet and move on.What I don't like about it is the terrible smell the water has now. The tank really needs to be cleaned every other week or more. And I liked the idea of the color enhancement, but it isn't what I was expecting. All of my fish are bright, vibrant orange, which would be great except that one of them is supposed to be a pale peachy-white with a black spot on its nose and between its eyes up onto its head. He is now fully orange.

My chunky orandas like it

I’ve been alternating between this food (Hikari Oranda gold) with Hikari Lionhead and Hikari koi small pellets for my chunky oranda goldfish. I got them already mature and quite big so I was concerned with finding food that was appropriate to their size while also being mindful of their tendency as oranda goldfish to get tummy issues from floating hard pellets.Size- wise, I’ve found the Hikari oranda gold to be about 3mm, Hikari lionhead to be at about 2mm and the Hikari Koi Small pellets to be about 4mm. As big as my fish are, the 4mm seemed to be the most appropriate and while they do eat it, it seems to be their least favorite. And between the Oranda one and Lionhead one, the oranda one floats and the lionhead one sinks. They are willing to eat both however, the sinking pellets seem to get past them so there is more debris. The floating ones get their attention and they eat it all so I guess I can see why the Hikari oranda gold is for oranda goldfish. They do prefer it. And I have yet to have any issues. All in all, I consider this a staple and their main food however I am always open to trying new foods for them.

We’ve moved our outdoor pond goldfish indoors during the winter with the idea of speeding up their growth. All of these goldies were inexpensive fingerlings when we purchased them in late spring. The idea was to keep feeding them 3 times a day which is only recommended at warmer temperatures. We were previously feeding them flakes on the surface which they would devour quickly and we were noticing some growth. After noticing that some of the fish were filling their swim bladders with air and swimming oddly we searched for sinking pellets and started using Hikari sinking excel which they seem to like but we bought Oranda thinking the larger pellet would sink but that was our mistake. They do not sink even when pre-moistened.They also cloud the water up noticeably. The positive thing is we have seen noticeable growth in only one week of feeding. One funny thing we’ve noticed. Our cat seems to love the smell of the pellets when they are soaking in water.
