For a watch I paid under 200 bucks at the time, I can't complain. Looks much better than the picture, although not as good as the Mako 3. Seems to keep good time, but power reserve is maybe 25 hours, maybe a little more. I wou.d buy again, really have no complaints. I don't really dive, but spend a lot of time outdoors so no issues with rain, etc. Review: the best of the best from Japan! MAKO II - if you like the watches and the automatic movement this one is the first option in your list ( its my personal opinion)!, solid metal easy to read the numbers, the bezel working good with precision, its not big you need to check the size, but immediately that you put the watch in your harm you fell that is original watch and non imitation form china! I made the investigation about Orient as company and they are very famous in Japan, they are part now of Seiko organization ( in the past they was a Seiko competition in Japan) another important point Orient does not spend money as Rolex, Omega and other famous brand in marketing and the material for the watches are in the top level quality, the objective of them is good quality and watches for lifes, non expensive prices. finally they are a very high reputation level in the Japan market for several year! Orient are the creator of the famous bambino classic dress watches and this model Mako are in the same way of the bambino, high quality and stronger details in the construction of this watch without ridiculous prices that you pay for marketing, luxury stores, famous actors or sport celebrity that use them in the commercials. I understand that the people think about Rolex for submarine watches, but this one is not a Rolex imitation its a excellent and different watch that do not try to stay in the imitation line or "whannabe Rolex"! I am very happy with my MAKO II, Original, non imitation, non mickey mouse watch with strong structure and serious company support!... if you can not buy a Rolex because its expensive, my recommendation do not try to buy a imitation that the people know is an imitation....think about it, if your salary are not in connection with a 10K Rolex and your car is a 2001 corolla car, why you try to buy a non real Rolex? its much better an Original automatic Japanese watch than Chinese imitation and mickey mouse watch!

Unreal for the price
I bought this watch over a Seiko SKX as my “beater” watch. While it doesn’t quite have the character of and SKX, it does look classy and refined. It has become one of my favorite watches for the simple reason that it is an astounding value. Anyone should be able to make a great watch for $5,000. That doesn’t impress me much. But when you make something like this for under $150, that is special. First, the watch does not feel cheap. It has a healthy weight to it. The details on the dial are very good. Yes, the bezel is not easy to turn because the knurled edges are too smooth. But, really, who needs to turn the bezel on a dive watch other than a diver? The bigger issue is the crown. They really crapped the bed on this design. You WILL need to use fingernails to turn it. This is really an annoying oversight because the rest of the watch is so nice and this would be such an easy thing to address. Other than that, it a lovely looking watch and as you can see from my pictures, it does really well on NATO straps. It’s is also EXTREMELY accurate. Mine gains 3 seconds per day. To put that in perspective, my $2800 Tag Heuer Aquaracer gains 6 seconds per day and my $4500 Omega Speedmaster gains 4 seconds per day. How this watch is more accurate at $125 is beyond explanation. We will see how well it stands the test of time but, really, if I get two years out of it it will be the best watch purchase I ever made. Plus, although I enjoy it’s looks, I don’t worry about it when I wear it because it’s so inexpensive. That alone is a great weight lifted because with my nicer pieces I’m always conscious of the fact that I have thousands of dollars on my wrist and that leads to some anxiety. Not so with this watch. You really cannot go wrong with this. No it’s not a snooty brand that will get you oohs and ahs from the douchy watch snobs, but this is really what a watch should be- accurate, attractive, durable, and inexpensive.

Really nice looking and well made, probably one of the best deals for the price for watches
I ordered both the Ray II and Mako II so I can see the differences in person. They are basically the same watch with different markers on the bezel and dial, and a different design on the bracelet. This is probably one of best deals in watches. The automatic movement is very accurate and +5/6 sec between the two watches out of the box. The shade of blue is perfect: very dark and nice looking, but has just enough color that people can see it's blue from any angle. I'm so glad they got this right, and isn't the common bright gaudy shade of blue that looks nice on it's own but weird and plastic toy-like when you wear it. The design is classy but also has a rugged tool watch appearance. The wide chunky case, lugs, and rounded inward curve of the link ends give it a semi-cushion case appearance. In pics and videos the Ray looked better, but the Mako is a lot nicer looking in person that I expected and I actually preferred it. The only downside to the Mako is that thinner markers means the lume isn't as bright and visible, and there is no lume on the seconds hand. The short lugs are a good design approach and fit well even on smaller wrists, but the lugs and bracelet are wide and chunky. It looks a little too big on my 6.75 in wrists, mostly what pushed it past how big of a watch I'd like to wear was the wide lugs. I'd buy one again in a second if they made a 38-39mm version. I have smaller wrists but the size should work well for a lot of people. Some very minor cons are: the texture on the dial looks platicky up close, and the crown is a bit too small in use but is otherwise fine. I guess I'll take a smaller, less comfortable to use crown if it looks better. I think the overall look would be more refined if the lugs were 20mm instead, and I would have probably kept it in that case. The bracelet only tapers 2mm and would look better and more refined if it tapered more. The bezel looks great and isn't too reflective around the edges, but is hard to get a good grip on and turn. If the case were smaller and at least flush with the bezel it would be easier to use.

A great piece at a fantastic price
Knowing Orient is a value proposition brand, I had to own one. The Mako II ultimately was my choice because I enjoyed how it has the vibe of a Breitling Superocean 42, and an in-house Orient caliber. This was the first 22mm lug-width watch I've purchased, which forced me into purchasing a rubber strap as well as numerous Natos from Crown & Buckle. I've enjoyed the larger feel of the 22mm straps on this watch too. The bezel action was stiff at first but the action is getting better with time. I find the larger indents on the bezel incredibly easy to get a finger nail in when the hands are to slippery to move the bezel - great thinking on Orient's part. The red tipped second hand provides a great contrast to the black dial and white indices. I've read others complaining about the Day/Date window and I don't understand that. It's very pleasant to see both complications included in a watch at this price point. These are incredibly easy to set up. One area of complaint is the crown. I find it very stiff and hard to screw down all the way, finding myself closing it with my fingers inside my shirt as it can be slippery and as stated, stiff. Once it is down you know though, which is a good feeling. The build quality is above what I expected for this price range. It feels more expensive, but I know it is not. I'm looking into sending this watch off to have a ceramic bezel and sapphire crystal put in it as I'd like to use this watch in my collection for years to come. That is subjective and a me thing however as I enjoy wearing this watch on and in the water. Overall, Orient provides a fantastic value here. As you'll notice in my photos I do not include the factory bracelet in the photos - I'm not a factory bracelet person, it's Nato or Rubber for me on all of my collection. Again, totally subjective, but handling the factory bracelet I can say it is much better than others in this price range. This is just a great looking watch for any enthusiast looking to score a nice diving piece. If this isn't the one for you aesthetically, they have plenty other options in the Orient lineup sure to fit your needs. Enjoy.

You Will Not Find a Better Watch at This Price
I love watches. I am not an expert. I adore this watch. Orient makes some of the finest automatic watches in the world. Especially under $200 dollars. I have a number of automatics, and this is my favorite. In fact this is my favorite watch, period. Now, I don't need a watch so accurate that losing 7 seconds a day is a deal breaker. This is a beautiful watch. the blue face is really nice, much better looking than any photo could show. I also have the black face version. It is just as good, but the blue face is special. And usually out of stock everywhere. If you own more than one automatic watch, the problem is, when you switch watches, you have to shake it a lot to bring it up to speed so it keeps good time. They make automatic winders, as seen near the beginning of the Dr. Strange movie. But, for me, that over-complicates things, in a bad complication way. So, this watch uses the F69 calibre (mechanism) designed by Orient (Seiko owns part of Orient). The F69 has 22 jewels and is capable of self-winding (automatic), hand winding (You turn the crown, yourself.), and hacking (Pull the crown all the way out and the second hand stops). Now, I have some lovely watches, many are Orient, so I hate to see them languish in my watch box. Therefore, I do not wear this beauty every day. Sometimes, by the time I wear it again, it has wound down. All I have to do is unscrew the crown (which has the Orient logo on it...nice) and wind clockwise. So I can get the winding up to speed immediately. The steel bracelet is very nice polished and brushed, and this is a "Dive" watch, good to 200 meters (If you remember to screw down the crown), but not really recommended for real diving. Water sports, snorkeling. Orient makes a Ray watch. It has bars for indices, whereas this watch, the Mako II, has numbers at 6, 9, and 12. Date and day at 3 o'clock. Easy to set. I bought this from Long Island Watch as opposed to buying from Long Island via Amazon, because the blues showed up after a long absence, and Amazon didn't have them. Charge the watch face with a strong light, and it glows nicely in the dark. Very good one-direction bezel. Nuff said. Highly recommended. Snatch up one of these blue ones while you can.

Take a Trip to the Orient
I bought this watch as a gift for my 18 year old son. It is one of his favorite watches. There are not many watches in this price range that are built like this one. Definitely a great starter watch that you can wear with almost anything. Would definitely purchase again!

If you know watches, consider Orient strongly
I rarely write reviews and only do so when a product is more than I expected. This Orient watch fits the category. I've been collecting, buying and trading fine timepieces for 30 years and have all the usual suspects; Rolexes, Brietling, Hamilton, Baume Mercier, Omega, Vacheron, TAG, etc... a strong collection of vintage and modern. I was turned on to Orient as almost a cult brand to watch collectors. Shame on me for not researching them years ago! I found out this company has been around for over 50 years. As a collector At the price point, it was a no brainer to give it a shot. Very happy I did. The accuracy of this watch is pretty amazing. It keeps better time than watches that are signficanly more money (100x more in some cases). The weight of the watch is good too. It has just the right amount of heft without being too heavy on the wrist. The blue face looks good. However, if you inspect very closely, you are not going to find the fit and finish of a Rolex, Omega, Brietling etc... That said, to a non-watch collector, those details aren't particularly noticed. I really liked the smooth edges of the case and the bracelet. Typically with lower cost watches, you get sharp edges and flimsy bracelelts. Not here. The watch case and bracelet are finished nicely and the bracelet also has good heft to it. Overall, I am very pleased with this watch and it is my new daily wear. It will be particularly useful when going on vacation when you don't want to risk bringing a high end watch for either damage purposes or God forbid, theft. This watch looks great for casual wear and sports activities but is equally at home on your wrist out to dinner or with business casual dress. I'm glad I took the change on the Orient brand and will likely purchase another.
