I tried to put it through its paces. I started with potatoes and an onion for home-fried potatoes. At dinner, I peeled a few extra potatoes to try my QuickPush. I dislike cutting potatoes into cubes, one of the reasons I don't make home-fries often. I used the 1/2" dicer and cut my potato in about 1/2" slices, within seconds I had all the potatoes cut into beautiful 1/2" cubes. Up next was the onion, I used the 1/4" dicer and again cut the onion into 1/4" slices, again it was so quick and I had perfect diced onion. The best part, I left the potato and onion in the container, added water to cover the veggies and left them in the fridge all night. In the morning I drained my veggies and made my home-fries! It was great!! I then decided I would do a stir fry for dinner, I pre-cooked my carrots so they weren't to hard. I wanted them like shoestring cuts, so I used the 1/4" blade and cut my carrots in about 2" lengths, but it sure did the trick, I tried green and red peppers, I cut them in half lengthwise and than in half across the pepper, using the same blade, I started the cut by pushing the flat end onto the blade and used a slower push. It didn't do too bad, I had some shoestring cuts and a few diced peppers. In my mind it was good. :) Overall, I was pleased with my stir fry. My last test was to cut cheese for Mac and Cheese the next day for dinner. When I make this my husband, wants Sharp cheese, so I used the 1/2" blade and a block of cheese cut into about 1/4" slices, plus an extra cut so it would fit the blade. It was the fastest I have ever cut up cheese it was Great! I can see lots of use for my QuickPush when summer's garden starts producing. I quarter thr onion first and still hard. When I used the 1/2 blade to cut radishes it was not hard to push. **Q: How big is the cutting surface? In another words how small do the veggies need chopped? In inches please.** A: Cutting surface is approx 3 inches by 3 inches, so the item your chopping need to be a shade smaller than that.. **Q: Why is it so hard to take out the blades?** A: The blades ARE hard to take out. I take an implement like a spoon or knife and pry them out. Be very careful to not let your fingers hit the blades while removing them, like I did. They will cut you (experience speeking). I initially had issues with figuring out how to remove the blade, but followed the instructions, used a little more strength and was successful. I like the fact that the blades snap in and stay in, so a little extra elbow-grease is no big deal to me. I also realized pretty quickly that overloading it before trying to use the chopping level is counterproductive. I simply decreased the quantity I cut at one time and it works like a charm. For celery, I find that the laying them curved side up so the spiny portion is exposed to the lid pusher arm works best. For bigger ends of carrots, I sliced them length-wise and put the flat side down -- no problem. I like the cleaning tool that comes with it to clean the smaller, tighter grid surface area of the green lid pusher that does the hard work. That tool and the sprayer feature on my kitchen faucet worked fine to clean that part of the contraption in a minute or less (I noticed someone complaining about it taking 30 minutes to clean -- my impression is that just depends on how you try to clean it; if need be, I will use the tried and true "soak it in water first method -- I have not tried to use this with cheeses but imagine that soaking the pusher in warm water before cleaning may be required). I would have given this device a 5 star rating but I would like to see it with a cutting surface that is a bit bigger. Having said that, I realize that may not be the most ergonomically sound revision to the product, also taking into consideration that the container and lid are sized for ease of refrigerator storage. I liked this so much I have already bought several more for Xmas gifts. I plan to give it to my friend's who like to cook and my young grandson who is a huge fan of fresh veggies and apples.
