Great characters and a wonderful set of characters. It's all worth the read and doesn't truly need you to have read the Godfather! Review: A Great Story but Loose Ties to “The Godfather” - Mario Puzo is a great author who pens wonderful stories. The Godfather was so good I had to read his follow up to The Godfather. This story largely takes place in Sicily but the storyline has very loose ties to the original story. There is reference to his son who hides out in Sicily and who eventually makes it back to America but the rest is really dealings with the equivalent organization in Sicily. If you want a story by a good author, this is an excellent book but if you are expecting a continuation of The Godfather, this isn’t the book for you. I gave it 4 stars because I was disappointed this was not a strong continuation of the original story. Nevertheless, it is an entertaining story by a wonderful story teller.

Great book!
Its really not the same as The Godfather in my opinion. Unlike the Godfather, The Sicilian is more on a level of romance and treachery. Guiliano, the main character, started a group of bandits joined together to fight the "friends of friends" (mafia) and and corrupt police that treats the people of Sicily wrong. I wont spoil much, but before Michael can leave Sicily, he has to rescue Guiliano from Sicily. I personally feel Michael and Guiliano are almost alike. The novel presents Sicily very well and her people. The history of the nation's occupation and its ability to route the invaders was well written so readers will get a good history lesson on the island. Mario Puzo has wonderful descriptions of the island in the book. His use of words puts readers imagination to reality on describing the mountains where Guiliano is hiding to the fields of Sicily. Along with imagery as being a strong point of the novel. How Puzo tells the story is great. He writes the story so fluently that he is able to add the quality of characterizations and narrations that pages are written with so much emotion. Great read! As great as the Godfather.

Good read
I have put it down and picked it up several times. It's a slow read, but enjoyable. I haven't finished it yet.

Great story
Guiliano is an outlaw worthy of Robin Hood. In If you like a fast moving yarn with plenty of plot twists and betrayals, this is for you. Thanks,Mario. By

more tales of The Godfathers legend.
I did not find this book as engrossing as The Godfather. Actually broke off a couple times to read another book.

Historical Fiction
Mario Puzo authored The Godfather which is arguably the best movie ever made. The book was also excellent. Puzo’s writing is easy to read and yet filled with many interesting details. The Sicilian is loosely based on the life of Salvador Guilianio who rose to prominence during the chaos in Sicily following World War II. Puzo portrays him as someone who unashamedly murdered many but displayed honor and compassion for the poor. Puzo describes the villages and the landscape better than any tour guide could hope to do. This book is recommended .

Spannender Roman. Empfehlenswert vor allem für Leute, die The Godfather gelesen haben. U. a. taucht Michael Corleone als Fluchthelfer auf.
