They stretch well. Not sure why it takes alot for a size though

Probably not. I would purchase the larger size. My son wears shoe size 4.5 - 5 and these socks fit just right.

My son is 8 and in a size 5.5y shoe. These fit him. They are nice socks! And honestly, I wear a size ten shoe in women’s and they fit me. So, yes, they will fit your son. 😊

They are pretty long/tall and also very tight. They were almost too tight on my 4 year old and left marks on his legs.
